keyless entry and keyless start question

hi guys.

just had a quick question about the keyless entry and start systems on the 2006 and 2007 rx-8s.

How does the keyless entry work? do I just approach the vehicle and it'll automatically unlock? When I walk away do I need to press a button to physically lock the vehicle or will it just lock itself?

Also how does the keyless start work? Is there a button on the dash or something like that? If so anyone have a pic of it/

Trying to decide whether its worth going for a 2006 over a 2005. Thanks guys.

Approach and press button on handle to unlock.
Autolock can be programmed and can only be programmed and deprogrammed by dealer, default is autolock off

No button for keyless start, there is a **** cover over the key hole for you to turn.

Do a quick search, these questions were previous answered and and a pic was posted.

I have a 07 with it and I personally end up using the key more than the remote feture for two reasons one of which is my fault.

1. Key fob is the same size as a credit card so it doesnt fit in my jeans to my liking, I end up putting it in my wallet and with my daily 205 Lbs. it breaks

2. Battery last 6 months and its always a pain to just go and get them.

With that being said I do like the idea and it works like this, You have to be within 3 feet of the door, trunk, or steering wheel. When you approach the car push the little black button on the door once for drivers side only or twice for both doors. If you unlock the doors from the passenfer side both doors unlock with one press of the button. There is a button under the rear bumper for the trunk.

To start the car there is a flat piece that clips over the key hole and you just turn it like a key, If you fob is broken like both of mine than you remove the clip and insrt key.

If you need more reply with questions.

I think the keyless entry/start is great. My RX-8 & CX-7 have this option. I have never used a key for either of them. I haven't even taken the fob out of my pocket, ever. The CX-7 is new but I've had the 8 for 1 1/2 years & the battery is still going strong. Maybe the guy who puts it in his wallet is depressing the buttons when he's sitting on it.
Oh, and it only auto locks when you get out. Otherwise, you need to push the button. The trunk will release when the button above the plate is pushed or by holding the button on the remote. Choices, choices, choices. Good luck.
