Polycarbonate is a good choice for but look for a small sheet with a coating to minimize scratches.

Hey Jedi,

Your car pics always look great!

Where did you bolt your ground wire? Do you have engine/alternator noise in your system or is it noise free?

I'm going to be starting my audio install the first weekend in May. I have not been able to find a solid place I believe in to mount for ground.

Thanks Bro!
Will

His setup is AWESOME! and you can see in his second picture that he grounded back at the battery.. also where i grounded my stuff I get ever so slight noise that you can only hear at high revs with the music off

I think that is more due to quality of your equipment and the quality of connectors and everything that makes a bigger difference besides just the ground.

I had a TON of noise when i used a POS line convertor a long time ago.. replaced it with good stuff and no more noise

thanks Wikked, that means a lot coming from fellow sound guru!

bigwillie: wicked nailed it on the head with grounding it back to the battery. It's definitely the best option for our cars.

Jedi, I just installed my amps in the trunk and basically stole your idea for mounting the amps in that recessed area. Just wondering how you ran the wires so the carpet didnt have bulges all over. Also, where did you get that piece that kind of outlines the recessed area and lets you cover with more carpet? Fabricated? Would love some info on it so I can steal even more of your ideas!

the wires go at 45 degree angle towards the top corner of the trunk; there is a very slight bulge, not noticable if you lay the wires down next to each other.

As for the trunk piece, it's actually the "trunk organizer" from Mazda. I had heard a rumor that they were being discontinued but you might still be able to get them from www.finishlineperformance.com . Due to the size of my amp, I cut the center divider out. The lid that comes with the trunk is already carpeted so you'll be good to go.

I don't mind people stealing my ideas; I think of it as a compliment.

How did you get the wires into the organizer? Im guessing you drilled holes but maybe you found a more clever way. Thanks for the response, already ordered the organizer.

with the center divider removed from the organizer, it provided a nice big gap to sneak wires into.
Note that I added small blocks on the bottom of the organizer to raise it just slightly. (so as to not smash the wires running underneath)

hey Maaz: to be honest, I never actually added everything up as the cost was not my primary concern; a quality upgrade was.

The beauty of this type of stero upgrade is you don't actually have to upgrade everything at once. Start with a good amp, subs, boxes, and a line converter. After that you can always do the component speakers if you still find them lacking.

Hey Jedi... how well did those Infinity Kappa 693.7's fit? I plan on possibly buying them today if they fit well. If not, how hard were they to fit? Could I DIY it if I have no experience with this? Thanks.

the 693's were a GREAT fit!
you can DIY this if you're feeling adventerous and have a basic understanding of car audio.
how much are you doing? just the 6x9 upgrade or going all out like mine?

I may go all out like you, but I first want to start by replacing the rear speakers and possibly the front tweeters with some JL's. Then I will get an amp and subs. I don't want to spend too much on a system though. I may eventually replace the front door speakers as well. What do you think of Alpine speakers and subs? I am looking to get the Infinity rear speakers, possibly Alpine 10" subs, and an Alpine amp.
