roachboy: the sound is awesome! I am still very happy with the stereo.
As for cost....ummm....I never actually tallied up the total.

Off the top of my head, here's what you're in for:
4080 boxes: $600 for the pair (approx)
subwoofers: the JL's I bought are about $200 each

you're $1000 into this project at this point
amp: $300 - $900 depending on what you go with
Speakers: this cost can vary significantly based on which brand you go with.
Power Cap - $100
Dynamat: $100
Speaker wire:
Wiring:
upgraded battery

The costs can add up quite quickly but if you shop around and decide on which brands you want, I think the cost can be minnimized.
It all comes down to how much you want to upgrade. Some people add just the subwoofers and leave the remaning speakers for another time

Jedi, I just emailed 4080 and asked them if they can make the boxes to fit JL 8w7's. I have 2 8w7's in my garage with 250/1 and some Boston Seperates and 6x9's I took off my last car. I think I am going to go with the JL Audio CleanSweep, and a cap.

So once again I am going to use the force.

Oh and how much dynomat did you need. 2 Bulk Packs?

1 bulk pack should be enough for the whole trunk, you might need a little more if you plan on doing the doors. (speaking of which, I've been meaning to get to that.... )

Worst case scenario just ebay the 8w7's and buy some 10w6's.

Just emailed me back and then I was thinking, I need to get to my Tockico D-Specs. So I ordered the zenclosure. They are going to make it to the 8w7 Specs as far as airspace is concerned.

I am going to shop around for bulk pack. Did you have a 24 SqFt or the 36 Sqft one?

Jedi, I officially hate you.
Looks nice. Once I get some money saved up I'll have to do it. The Bose just needs some low end.

How many sheets of Dynamat did the trunk lid take? I've got a sub facing up that flexes my lid and I've got one sheet to work with >_<

First, thanks to Jedi54 for this thread, I've used it a bunch. I have a few points/additions/comments - apologies if they've been covered before.

I'm using Second Skin Damplifier in the standard thickness. (Weight for me is a concern). I did not cover the stock thick dampening material glued to metal in the trunk area, since it already looks effective as is. The rest of the trunk is pretty well covered, plus adding a few pieces on the inner rear fenders. Second skin comes in 12"x24" pieces which is a very convenient size to handle and very few surfaces would require larger single pieces. So far, I have 6 sq ft on the trunk lid, 3 on the lower upper deck, 1 on the top of the upper deck, and 27 on the trunk in general. I pulled the plastic panels behind the rear seats as I see them as a rattle trap and probably work against getting clean sound from the sub. The front side of the V-brace there is also a rattle source because of the layers of spot welded metal there, so that got skinned too. I hate to say it, but judging from thump testing, the roof area above the rear seats is a major resonant noise source. Getting the headliner down is a PIA, but 3 sq ft on that surface has a huge effect on the ringing of that panel. Total sf before doing anything with the lower passenger compartment itself is 30 sq ft. 40 sq ft of Damplifer is ~$110 and the extra 10 sq ft should cover a good part of the tranny tunnel as well. 40 sq ft comes to about 15 lbs - not too bad.

Another comment is on the use of 4 x Infinity 10.9t tweeter/mids. They supply a crossover set for 2500 Hz. The Bose front tweets are set for 1800 Hz (22 uF) which isn't so different, but the rear tweets crossover @ 8500 Hz (4.7 uF). The rears are set to be true tweeters in other words, not mids! However because of their 2" size it's doubtful that they are very good at the job. So rather than using 4x identical "wide range" tweeters I'm thinking about using Image Dynamics NX30 mids for the front (since they recommend a lower 1600-2400 Hz crossover than the Infinities) and a more normal small ~5-25 kHz tweeter for the rear. Comments?

Finally, at this point, I'm gonna keep the bose door speakers for a while anyway. Since I'm adding a sub, I'm thinking of capping the door speakers @ 150 Hz or so to take the low bass load off them. Makes sense or ?

Have you ever delt with the metro dash kit? I was thinking about scoring one of those and slapping a pioneer avh-p4300dvd in it.

Metra dash is one of the most popular dash kits on this site. Will work perfectly fine with the pioneer.

silly question, but would the tweeters not fit properly in the rear without cutting the deck? Those speakers are selling for a really nice price

(better late then never response)
not really.
the bose speaker is very 'flat' and the ones I used wouldn't work without some handy work.
maybe it's different in the S II but I don't imagine they spent much time redoing the stereo stuff.

^^^ You'll have to show me how it sounds at SevenStock this year, assuming there is one and I can make it out there...
