iPhone/iPod Touch G Meter?
iPhone/iPod Touch G Meter?
Wondering what experiences folks here have had with any of the g-force meter apps for the iPhone/Touch? Reading most of the reviews on iTunes is of little help because every one seems to have lovers and haters.
Would be interested in hearing your experiences with the various g-meter apps.
Thanks!

seems to me they work decently. however you can't compensate for body roll. so for instance if you turn and have a real sloppy suspension the ipod will change angle and it will read like 3gs or just something higher then you are depending on the angle.
also it would only work for skidpads, banked corners would throw it off and so would hills.
cool for a toy, i have one, but dont quote the numbers as fact!

I don't trust the iPhone/iTouch to properly measure my inputs on Super Monkey Ball. I cannot imagine it being an efficient means of measuring G forces at all. Don't get me wrong, it'd be totally awesome if it was, but it's going to be a long while before I start listening to people who quote performance measurements taken with an iPhone.
if you fire an accurate gun and miss your target, the problem is that you were using it wrong, it's not the guns fault.

that is REALLY cheap for something that can measure this data at a very close to exact number.

I don't mean to sound like a naysayer, but I'd have to see some pretty convincing hard evidence of this before I bought it. I find it really hard to believe that it accurately measures horsepower, but hey, I hope I'm wrong because for $13, that'd be pretty effin' sweet.

but the linear distance times are what i was referring to. they are fairly accurate
aren't the variables to calculate Hp for a linear object... only Velocity and mass? because it definitely gave me an accurate reading for my car, the speedometer saids 61mph when i turn off the program and the program saids 61.43....the accelerometer in these iphones are pretty accurate! so you just need to input an accurate mass.
Dynolicious. It's $12.99US from the App Store.
As long as you mount it securely, it is as accurate as you are ever going to get for thirteen bucks. And it is accurate. If you correctly enter the curb weight of the car (i.e. car + fuel + passengers), the kW or HP reading you get is pretty damn spot on.
It is never going to compete with 100 thousand dollar roller dynos for accuracy, but i found it to be constistantly 1 to 3km near to what my speedo was showing.
Inertial systems have long been used for navigation in commercial aircraft (INS) because they are accurate. Dynolicious and the iPhone use this intertia principle, albeit on a smaller scale.
My personal opinion, its great.

Getting your car weighed.
I got my car weighed and did my recycling at the same time. I loaded the boot with my recycling...went to the transfer station. They weigh the car on the way in...dump your rubbish, they weigh your car on the way out, and charge you on the difference. Voila, you have an accurate curb weight, AND you saved the planet at the same time. :-)
To the guys worried about $12.99.
Seriously, $12.99 in this part of the world gets you a burger, fries, drink and a sundae.
So the guys bitching about the fact it's $13, you have three choices:
1: Speak to a DynoTune rep, and pay $200-$500, and book in a roller run.
2: Purchase a Dyno Tuning Set Up, approx $100,000 and install it in your parents garage..
or
3: Spend $13 on an incredibly accurate personal application, and use it over and over again to multiple runs, after you do your little performance tweaks, and compare. Then output the results in a graph, then print them/email them/mms them/put them in a folder so you can compare and show all your friends. Then, go to your friends house who has a Volkswagen Golf GTI, that is always slagging you off about your Jap' 8, and do a few runs in his car and compare. Then go to a nightclub, start dancing with a hot chick, pull out your iPhone, and show her the graph results of your latest run, and watch as you lead her home to your bedroom.
It's not rocket science. :-)
I've started a thread where people can post their iPod - iPhone dyno results...to see what the action looks like..
