Im dying to get this fixed - Flipkey for my 2004 RX8
Hello guys, I have a RX8 in Sweden, and I saw that some of you made a own flipkey to your rx8's. And im very intressted in this.
I called the Mazda RX8 service in Sweden, and told them that i wanted a flipkey for my rx8 2004, and they just laughed They said its impossible, there is no way that you can build a working flipkey programmed to your 2004.
Now i want to show that bastard, and shut him up. But what do i need? I heard that the hardest part was the keycut, what exactly is a keycut? And its pretty easy to get it programmed right?
Will this work? -- >http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/NEW-0...mZ300261060193
Thanks for all help!

You don't cut the key and stick it on to the new one.
The OEM flip key thats on your ebay link has an "uncut" key inside, and it should be the exact same size as the keys you currently have ( the blade part). Just bring both the uncut and cut key to a locksmith to make a copy.
A guy on one of the thread got his copied at Home Depot, I used to get my car keys copied at Lowes.
Also your going to need two of your original keys to program your new flip key, if i read those thread correctly.

Yes the flip key should have an uncut key blade inside, and it should be the same size as the picture. your gonna need two original "coded" keys (not the service) to make the car learn the new flipkey and then, go on with the programming for the remote.
Your rx8 came with remote lock/unlock right? since I'm not really sure of the EU options, I only got 2 flipkeys from the dealer (USA), but it seems like you guys get 3 keys? Master, spare, and service? and I guess a remote fob?
I'd re read the other threads just to be certain. Can anybody else confirm what I said?

Yeah, i have two original coded keys. Thats right, i got one master, one spare, and a service key, and i also have two remote fobs with lock/unlock, trunk opener and panic button.
So I have to make a copy of my master key, and then put it into my uncuted flipkey?

My RX8 is from Germany and its a late 2003 modell. I think I know what the problem is, US remotes doesnt work with EU cars simple as that. My current remote has 4 buttons, lock, unlock, trunk release and larm off botton, but the US model has the panic button instead of our "larm off" botton. What year are your rx8 from?

wonderful, yes it is so, You can not use US keys for European version RX-8.
And by the way the US model key with panic button won't fit to your key wich is with alarm off key. I bought mine key on ebay from England, but it was used and it was with alarm key off.
I found one on Ebay here you can buy it, but I am surprised that it is so cheap, i bought mine for 40 euro and it was used:

I do have the orginal remotes and keys, but I really liked the flip key.
I managed to code the key itself, but I couldnt program the remote. Thats all.

my original visteon # is 41848. If yours is not the same and you're certain that you're performing the binding process properly then the only thing we can conclude is that they are incompatible...
My best guess is that Mazda swapped out the components at some point during the 2004 rollout. This is also probably why no one will openly market a 2004 flipkey...
What is your cars manufacture date? Mine is Nov 2003 if memory serves correctly.

Can't program my new flipkey...
Oddly enough, I have been able to get the remote working like a champ. That was cake compared to progamming the key.
Is it possible that keys can go bad or be different? From what I've been reading, all the keys should be the same as far as coding right? The only other thing I could think of is that the PCM is maxed out on keys assigned. Is it possible to tell if your car/PCM is maxed out with 8 keys assigned? Is there required wait time before trying to program the key again?
I've been reading up on all the related threads by searching, but none of the threads I found go into detail around this area.
Thanks in advance!

Sounds like you know as much about the process as I do. The only difference is the results. I spent 10 minutes binding the key and remote on my flipkey.
Looks like I got lucky. A number of people with build dates around the same time as mine have been met with failure, although it seems to be more often the remote they have problems with, not the actual key.

Talking with a nearby service department at a local dealer, they were saying that programming Mazda keys are tough. That they charge so much for labor as a flat rate because programming can take anywhere from 5- 45 min or so using the WDS system. (So they say...)
I ordered another blank from Ebay , hoping this will shed some positive results. Wish me luck!
Thanks for replying ShellDude.
