That is the Series II part number right? With reverse located to the left? So for the Series I owners, you may have to call and see. I have a Series II so will be waiting for an update.

Here's the latest update from our friend Dave Garth at Jennings Mazda in the UK...

"Illuminated Gear Lever **** available for 230ps Engine variant RX8 R3 2009 Model, Part No FE16V8170B04

Price is different Gb £ 79.20 plus shipping Gb £ 12.00"

(...still only about $145 US dollars total)

I did verify with DocBeech through PM that is the same part number that was shipped to him. It would appear that the problem is the link on the website takes you to an old obsolete part number. That's why I go the "Sorry, this isn't available" email reply.

I just got off the phone with Dave (VERY nice guy) and I did tell him there are others waiting to order this part number. Unfortunately, he said there's no simple way to bypass the website and order the item another way. Sounds like Mazda on line ordering in the UK is a little unreliable regarding current information.

My suggestion if you want one of these: order the item through the link in DocBeech's post #1. If you get the same response that I did (part number FF37-V8-170-04 is no longer available), contact Dave Garth, either by email or telephone and let him know it's part number FE16-V8-170-B04 that you're trying to get. I know, that seems half-assed but it appears to be the only way to navigate through the order process at the moment.

Hope that helps everyone.

Ok doing a quick google search shows that FE16-V8-170-B04 is for SERIES I manual transmissions.

I see you have a R3 so be careful!

Good catch, jrx. Thanks. I just looked closer at DocBeech's photos and reverse is in fact...reversed!

Stop the presses, AGAIN.

This is turning into a bad soap opera (is that redundant?) but here's the latest update on the illuminated shifter **** for R3 models...

Good morning Larry.

Gear lever **** should be with us today, just to let you know it is the original part number you ordered, Mazda have mysteriously re instated part after telling us it was no longer available!!!!

Will ship today.
Will forward Tracker Number.

Regards

Dave Garth

Just to be clear, that's part #FF37-V8-170-04. Dave did tell me a few times during our phone conversations that Mazda UK part ordering was a bit of a mess. I'm just crossing my fingers and waiting to see what shows up on my doorstep, hopefully next week sometime.

shoot the guy an email. from what we found out the part number I ordered no longer exists and they have a new part number now. What this means in simple terms is one supplier quit making them. So another supplier has picked up and started producing them. As for shipping it took me in Texas to get mine 7 days on the dot.

I have moved the images to here:

This should make it easier to go over them.

So my illuminated shifter **** arrived today from the UK and I can confirm that part #FF37-V8-170-04 definitely is the correct part number for a '09 (and I assume '10) R3 and it obviously is available. If you get an automatic "no longer available" reply from Dave Garth, email or call him and straighten it out. Thanks again to DocBeech for turning me/us onto this.

Quick question for all: What's the easiest way to dye the stitching on the new **** red to match the stitching on the stock **** and parking brake lever?? The illuminated one comes with white stitching.

I used the link that DocBeech has in post #1 and had no problem PLACING the order. If they're not giving you an option to ship to the U.S. any more I'd contact Dave Garth (email and phone are listed in the "Contact" box on the order page) and see how you can get around that.

I just emailed him to let him know my order arrived and told him (again) that others would be looking to order these from him. Great guy to deal with.

Got mine in on Friday. The install was simple. It fits fine with the AFE short shifter if anyone was wondering. It's a little bright relative to the rest of the cabin lights but it looks really good.

Where do these wire up to? What kind of bulb is used? If it's not LED, you could probably run a wire instead to the dimmer wire at the back of the radio.
