Make sure your headunit's firmware is greater than 9.55. I installed mine a couple of weeks ago, very easy to install if you follow the DIY.

Here's a link to my final product

Sheeeesh.....

A little -VERY easy- research could have saved you time and money....

Either IceLink, or P.I.E. + RCA cable. First solution is more expensive but way better for iPod, second is universal, cheaper but with none of the IceLink functions.

Take your pick, and go buy one

These options work because you don't have a tape player. It uses the plug that the tape player would have used.

The auxmod gives you basic line-in where you control your ipod from the ipod. Auxmod advance is coming out hopefully by november. It's going to be like 120 or so, however it will allow for your songs to scroll on the display, control of the ipod from the steering wheel, etc.

FM transmitters suck, no matter which one you get, because their output is limited by the FCC. They're so popular because people like the idea of a wireless solution. Besides, they kill your battery really fast, and take it from an Apple employee- they're bad for the life of your ipod battery. So.. yeah. Good luck!

I love my Audiolink Ipod kit. I've had it since April of this year and not a single problem.

after looking over these options i think the cheapest way to go will be to burn CDs from iTunes. my last car had a stereo system dedicated to the iPod:

- no head unit
- proclip mount on dash
- RCA cable from iPod to the crossovers, two amps
- components, etc.

with road noise and the distraction of operating an ipod, i now think that having it readily available isn't adviseable. (sp?) if only the mazda ipod interface kit had a better UI...

I think I'm just going to bite the bullet and get my head unit's firmware upgraded (for $50) and go with the Audiolink..
