How to tap for LOC....

Sorry if this sounds a tad retarded, just bear with me

I want to add a 5 channel amp... so I need 6 RCAs to run to it. Thus, I need a 6 channel LOC.

From the images I've found, there are a total of 8 wires I can use, which doesn't seem enough (or does it?) The Left Front, Left Rear, Right Front, Right Rear all with positive and negative. That's a total of 8 wires.

In order to wire a 6 channel LOC (I am probably going to get a 4 channel and a 2 channel in order to save money), where would I wire the other two channels? Can I wire to four of the wires twice? Or are there more wires I could use somewhere? As I understand it, I need a total of 12 wires to input into my LOC. Front right, front left, rear right, rear left, and subwoofer -- all positives and negatives.

Let me know if that makes sense, and how I would go about doing it.

Thanks for the help!

You should be the resident "LOCsmith" (he he) after all of your questions. I thought in another post you said that you could sum the front & rear for the 5th channel.

Anyway, yes you can connect 2 LOCs to the front or rear if you want. You could use a splitter on two channels (preferably the front) after a 4 channel LOC. You could buy a line driver that has linking or summing capabilities.

I understand that you are trying to do things as cheap as possible, but this usually isn't best in car audio (or anything else for that matter).

Remember that a LOC is designed to take high level inputs and turn them into low level outputs. By tapping before the amp, you will be taking low level inputs and keeping them low level ouputs. You aren't really accomplishing anything. For the best signal to noise ratio, solder RCAs directly to the factory wiring and run them to a line driver.

jst, I think I am going to do just that... solder RCAs and run them into a line driver. I'll keep you posted on the progress.

jst... as an update.

I bought two of these: http://www.davidnavone.com/adaptor_products.htm#NE-7V (the NE-7V line drivers).

That should take care of my concerns, right? I can probably just return the LOC entirely... let me know your thoughts!

AGAIN, had you taken my advice earlier you would have been done by now. The Audio Control 6XS is a LOC, line driver, summing device, subwoofer level controller + all in one. Solder rca ends onto the stock preamp lines, plug them in and you are done.

And AGAIN, I did not want to spend over $150 for something I didn't necessarily need. After reading through all the posts here, and finding some stuff out from Kicker directly, the amp that I bought can use speaker level inputs right off the head unit, and give a signal for the subwoofer.

All without an LOC. All without line drivers. And without spending a dime.

If I had listened to you without doing my homework, I'd have spent money for nothing. I can return the line drivers that I bought, and I won't be too bad off.

I wonder if Kicker understood that you will be running a HU's preout signal and not a full power signal from a non bose HU. Hopefully this will work like expected and you will be satisfied. If not, you have lost nothing but time. Let us know!!

Yea, I called them and asked with all the specifics... they said the LOC will be essentially useless since the speaker level inputs on the amp will take care of that by itself. This is good news for me

Worse case, I can always get what I need later on.

Additionally, my amp will take in differential inputs, though while I hear the Bose output is flat, the amp will make up for any problems otherwise.

I think I'm all set
