KY Metra Kit Install Help

So not to long ago i decided to give the aux hack a try that explained in the link below...
http://www.whatsmyip.org/ipodrx8/14.php

I did the soldering myself i had never soldered anything before so i was thinking this might possibly be the problem. I cross soldered a small amount but cleaned it up best i could. It looked pretty good. I put everything back together and everything fit together nicely but after plugging it back up I found that nothing was working besides the fan speed controls and the emergency lights button and only hot air would come out.

I figured i fucked up the radio so i decided to get a metra kit and a new stereo. I bought this one

http://www.autosoundcentral.com/Metr...p/957510hg.htm

Once again i put everything together and still giving the same results as before.

Im thinking it could be a bad fuse, or some hidden wire i accidentally disconnected doing all this. I hoping it's something that easy but hell i dont know what to look for. please help!

Donno man. Sounds like your HVAC control board may be cracked. It's happened to a few people on here, and they were able to repair it. Should be able to search for it. Might be in the FAQ.

no luck

I tried to do some research about the HVAC but came up, more or less, empty handed. Are you sure i still have a HVAC board since ive installed the metra? There's no circuit board connected to the HVAC anymore.

Back of the controls. If I remember right, the cracks were happening around one of the corners. I think the top right corner by the temp control. I'll search for you in a bit. Getting ready to hit the green.

Had the same problem (only hot air coming from vents), fixed it yesterday.

You need to take the HVAC controls (your *****) out and separate them from the circuit board inside. You'll see 3 tabs (2 on top, 1 on bottom) of the fan speed and cold/hot ****. Open the case and you'll have access to the the circuit board.

On the back of the circuit board where the cold/hot **** was, you'll see 3 solder joints in a row. Re-solder these even if you don't see anything wrong. Mine had a crack only seen under a microscope, which was causing the problem.

I'm not sure if this will fix your A/C, mode, defrost, and vent buttons.

Here's the DIY thread with pics:

https://www.rx8club.com/series-i-do-yourself-forum-73/diy-no-heat-repair-heater-control-158200/

Even Metra themselves sent me these EXACT instructions and pictures when I called them.

You might want to go to a pro for the soldering if you're not sure what you're doing since that circuit board costs upwards to $350.

I noticed on the DIY link it saying to hold down the power button and wait for it to show something or another. However, mine shows nothing, ever, well since it broke. No time, Climate, or radio. Would a crack like youre speaking of cause this aswell?

If you installed the Metra kit, you don't have a power button anymore lol

If your red screen up top doesn't work at all either, it's most likely the Metra box that's fucked. You might want to contact them or exchange the unit. Double check your wiring too.
