I don't know if I understand your question....

If you car has HID headlights now, then yes, you can buy and plug in an aftermarket bulb.

If you car has halogen headlights now, then you need to buy either an OEM or aftermarket kit with ballasts and bulbs.

(Note that I would recommend buying HID headlight housings as well, but there is a thread (here) about aftermarket HID's in halogen housings without any problems)

There are lots of threads on this forum about different kits, bulb manufacturers, and colour temperature for bulbs, and matching colours for marker lights and fogs - as well as 'how to'.

Hi.

I think I've got it.

You already have factory HID's in your car.

The 'colour temperature' (measured in degrees kelvin =k) has nothing to do with how hot the bulb gets. Colour temperature is how the light coming from the bulb looks to the naked eye (low# = yellow; high # = blue; middle # = white).

Our OEM Xenon headlight ballasts are 35 watts output and uses an D2S connector. Stock bulbs have a colour temperature of 4,200 kelvin.

Theoretically, any bulb that is 35 watts & has a D2S base will work just fine with the OEM ballast and in our housing.

Here is a GREAT post from Rotary Rasp which charts colour temperature.

Note that changing bulb temperatures and bulb manufacturers could may will have a negative effect on the life of the bulb.

That being said, there are a bunch of folk here who are running 6,00 or 8,000 k HID's and they just love them. (Note that depending where you live, very high numbers could also get you extra notice from the cops for having non-white lighting).

Did I answer your q?
