Help Please - Illuminated Start Button

Had problems with my illuminated start button, and the fact that the instructions are in Japanese.

All connectors fitted with no problems, however encountered the following problems:

1. start button did not work
2. key was able to start the car even after wiring harness installed
3. No illumination

Any help would be most welcome.

I posted instructions at http://users.bigpond.net.au/rtjong/rx8.htm in PDF hope someone can help me translate the important sections.

Thanks in advance.

BTW the illumination worked as per pic.

Cool Wow...

That looks like a lot of work!

The symptoms (no start & no light) sound like the ground connection is bad (bottom of page 8 of the PDF). Check with a 'known good' ground point.

No other guesses, and sorry, no japanese.

Goodness! That looks like brain surgery for a simple start button. Maybe you can try PM takahashi since he's in Australia as well.

M-ster,

do you have the start button installed? if so how does illumination work? is it on when you turn the key to ON and turns off when press the start button? or is it on all the time, can you also start the car with the key even though you can start with the button.

Thanks

Robert

I am not a DIY specialist but thx :p

I will try to look at the manual ... where in particular are you stuck?

Robert do you want me to translate the trouble shoot stuff... secondly just check all connection as per diagram... by turning the key to on and press both brake and accel - should the ON light illuminate

This thing sound look from the first time I look at it but I need the coin bag ;(

Sorry mate, I've not gotten my car yet, next week I'll be. Can't help you much here, that's why I've arrowed someone else, sorry takahashi:p

From what I know, the car can be started with either the key or the button itself. As for the rest of the question I can only answer you next week. But I hope you would have solve all your queries.

Cheers

Hi Takahashi

Thanks alot for that, I will be most grateful. I just went by all the diagrams, no Japanese translation at all.

my fax number is (02) 9836 3162, and need all the help I can get at the moment.

I love the look of the button, looks good in the car I believe.

Thanks Again

Robert

Hi robert,
How's it going with your button? Hope you've got it fixed!
I've just got mine, so, key still can be used as normal (to start the car), the button will illuminate when the key is being turned to on position, and the lights will go off once the car starts up. Personally, my experience so far is that the car starts up easier with the key then the button. But, I still lurvesss the button.

cheers

Hi M-ster

Congratulation on getting the car, the button works now and re-wired to work without the wiring harness. I love it personally, thats probably because I drove my friends s2000 (awesome car!). Many thanks to DMRH, as he got it working.

If you use this button, you still need to insert a key to drive the car, correct.... so what if any is the point of this... is it just asthetic?

P Daddy, The original kit did not work anyway on my car, so had to modify it to work. it replaces the coin holder compartment on RHD cars and to make it work on LHD needs modification.

see pics here http://users.bigpond.net.au/rtjong/rx8.htm

jniamehr, just for looks, feels good too starting with a button. (a mate has an s2000 and I loved the start button idea)
