Help with New Speakers/Stereo

Hey Guys,

I'm a complete amateur when trying to hook up speakers and what I need to buy...but what I'd like to do is replace my entire Bose speaker and default stereo with a new system. Would these components do the trick? Is there anything I'm missing or things I should do differently?

Rear and Front Mids and Tweeters Rear and Front Mids and Tweeters

Speaker Harnesses (Required? Helpful?) Speaker Harnesses (Required? Helpful?)

Deck - Pioneer AVH-P4400BH Deck - Pioneer AVH-P4400BH

I realize I'd also need a Metra Double Din kit as well.

Is that everything I need? I don't really care about too much bass, just want clear, good sound. Should I get an amp? Any suggestions?

Thanks for the help

The stickies are helpful. I suggest giving them the once over.

You cannot replace the Bose 9" front woofer with any aftermarket speaker and still use the factory Bose amp. This means you'll either have to run the speaker output from your new Pioneer directly to the crossover in your new component set, or install an aftermarket amp. An amp is never a bad choice and, of course, I'd recommend it.

Don't worry about the speaker harnesses. Not worth your time.

You'll be ditching a 9" woofer from each door..... thought about adding a small subwoofer to your setup? You could get one 5-channel amp to power everything.

Ok, thanks...as I said, I'm not sure what I'm doing, but have looked through the FAQ now.

Could I have a Rockford Fosgate R300 4 Channel Amp and use that to power some JL Audio TR650-CSi's? I was thinking of using those 6.5 Components in the front and if I got an adapter plate would I be able to easily install a set of them in the rear as well?

Of course you could use a Rockford 4-channel to power them. That will power the full component set up front and back if you want. Though I think I'd just stick to a coaxil or midbass in the rear. Certainly no reason to have full components in the rear.

No adapters needed for these in the rear.

Again, you're removing two 9" woofers from the system. I'd think about adding a subwofoer to regain that low end punch. A single 10" would be plenty. A small powered Bazooka tube is cheap, quick and easy.

I HIGHLY recommend the alpine Type R 10" sub. Sounds great, hits hard, and is pretty reasonably priced. I've been running 2 in my car for about 5 years now and they still sound awesome!

Am I able to connect an active sub to the standard bose unit? How would I go about doing it? Anyone got any links that may help me? Thanks for your help!

If by active you mean powered? As in built-in amp? Then of course. Just use the speaker level inputs on the unit and tap off the rear speakers. Just power, ground and remote 12V from there.

Super easy. The only "difficult " part would be to run power from the battery to it and that isn't hard. You can get the remote wire from the bose amp in the back and also tap into the sound signal there as well. My 8 was one of the easiest installs I have ever done.

Yeah, it's got a built in amp.. I'm familiar with how to connect the live wire and know how to connect the earth wire.. I'm just not sure of the rest...

Where is the best place to connect the earth wire if I was having my sub in the boot (in the space where the the boot is lower than the rest of it)?

Where would I connect the remote wire??

Would I be able to connect the RCA cable to the amp/headunit or something? If not, how do I connect the sub the amp/headunit/speaker/whaaat???

If I need to have it working with one of the speakers.. Which speakers would be best to connect it to?

Anyone got any pictures guides or anything that may help me? Thanks

I'd recommend installing it in the boot up against the rear passenger seats. Having it in that "dip" pretty much makes the rest of the boot useless. It's not going to sound any better there, so just tuck it out of the way. Your car, your call though.

The ground (earth) wire will just need to be connected to bare metal. If you pull the side carpeting off in the boot, you'll see the large bolt and nut for the rear shocks. At lot of people use them. Just loosen the nut enough to slide the wire under and then tighten the nut well. It also needs to be bare metal to metal. So try to sand off the paint and primer where the wire will be touching. If you want to make your own ground somewhere else, just use a self-tapping screw and lock washer. But check the underside of the car to make sure you're not going to drill into the gas tank.

Power wire should be ran straight off the battery, fused within 12" of the battery, then through the firewall and back to the boot. However, if you have a tiny amp built-in that only pulls 5-10 amps, then I suppose running the power off the center rear accessory port (rear cigarette lighter port) would be fine. That line is already fused up to 20 amps I believe. I feel like it's poor advice telling you to do that, but it's completely safe and few people even use that port anyway.

The remote turn-on wire needs to be connected to any 12V ignition source. Here in the states, that same rear accessory port is switched ignition. The green wire is the hot one.

As for signal, you have two choices.

1) Use the speaker-level (or high-level) inputs available on most of these amplified systems. They'll just have + and - speaker inputs. Extend them and tap them into your rear speaker wires. Gray and Green wires in this pic.
2)Buy a line output converter. This simply converts speaker wire inputs into RCA outputs. Connect the LOC to your rear speakers and then run the RCAs to your amplified bass module.

You are an absolute legend.
Nahh I need it put it in the lowered but because it's quite a tall sub and it won't fit otherwise... I'll use the battery for the power as it's a powerful sub and I have the wiring kit with fuse already to be put in from my old car... Where can I find the firewall??

Also, I've only had the car 2 days and I haven't seen any rear accessory port! Where's this? =O

I'll get a line output converter to connect it.. But i've read a few times that it's better to connect a sub to the front speakers as more power goes to them? Would that be better to do? How would I know which wire to connect the LOC to?

Sorry for being a pain in the **** and not knowing anything at all ¬_¬ but i appreciate your help man!

Also, how do I start a new thread on this site?

Check out the FAQ thread at the top of this forum for lots of various info.

The firewall is the wall between the engine bay and cabin of the car. As for where you can sneak through, check the FAQ. But keep in mind, some things may be different for right-hand drive vehicles.

Slide your center armrest all the way back, then flip it up. Accessory port should be there.

What powered sub are you using? Model number?

And you start a new thread the same way you do on any message board. By clicking the new thread button. It's right at the top left.

Ohhhhh right! I thought it was the actual hole I need to put it through =\

I had a look, and I don't have an accessory port there =[

I'm using a Vibe BlackAir B12 Active sub. 600w RMS and 1800 Max.

Woohoo I made a thread!

I think i've worked out how to do most things from what you've said.. But there's a few things I'm still unsure about....
