GROM and Static

I just had my GROM aux adapter and bluetooth installed by a professional installer and while it works I have a pretty serious problem with static. When the aux jack is connected to the Phone and it is playing something, it is clear and static free. However as soon as the Phone stops sending a signal out the headphone jack a serious amount of very loud static starts coming through. This is a major issue as it makes the bluetooth unusable as when I stream music from my phone since with nothing sending a signal down the aux jack there is a ton of static coming through.

Is this a grounding issue, my installer was like "they all do that" and I know this is complete BS, just sounds like something needs to be grounded. I looked at the GROM manual though and they don't mention anything about grounding?

I'm bringing my car back in a few hours for the installer to look at again but would appreciate any advice from the more knowledgeable folks on the forum on how to fix this.

what kind of bluetooth adapter is it? What version? What phone are you using? Lots of things to take into account here.

It's the GROM Bluetooth adapter from here:

http://www.gromaudio.com/store/aux_a...nterface_.html

It includes an aux-in interface and a bluetooth dongle. The static has nothing to do with bluetooth, with nothing connected to the aux or bluetooth you get a lot of static coming through the radio when the EX interface is selected.

Having said that my phone is a Samsung Galaxy S2 but I don't think it is causing the issue since I get the static even with nothing connected.

So I just got back from the installer, he checked everything over and found one wire he spliced wasn't quite making the proper connection and that was causing the issue. So now sound is fine and almost everything works perfectly, only issue left is steering wheel buttons don't seem to skip tracks as advertised but this could be a phone issue.

Steering wheel buttons will only work with the iPod connector I believe. They're certainly not going to work with the 3.5mm audio plug and...unless they have some crazy bluetooth-ness going on in their adapter... not gonna happen with bluetooth either.

No craziness required, bluetooth has a profile called AVRCP (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bluetoo...le_.28AVRCP.29) that allows a bluetooth device to remote control media, this is how bluetooth headsets support the play/pause/previous/next buttons many of them have. The GROM unit supports the AVRCP profile (http://gromaudio.com/store/grom_acce...cable-btd.html) and specifically states this should work.

I suspect it had something to do with the 3rd party music player I'm using on my phone, I'll need to investigate more this weekend.

huh. cool. I haven't spent much time with bluetooth other than hands-free calling. The audio quality is always degraded for streaming music, so that's my que to use something else.

I played around with my phone and some settings on the 3rd party player I use (PlayerPro), not sure what I did but I got it working now and the track up and down buttons now control the music from phone properly.
