On the other hand, it's a great place to hook up power for footlights, or extra maplights etc...

Has anyone added a switch to the glovebox before? I was planning on doing this, but want to know where to find a power source that is always on, so I can tap into that.

The lighter in the ashtray is inches away, and always on, what other info do you need?

Allright. That is exactly the info I was looking for. I had that in mind, but wanted to make sure it was the right place. My other idea was the map light wire.

People like to complain about seeming 'cheapness' on Mazda's part, but it's that very reasoned frugality that makes our cars so affordable! An unnecessary switch here and there adds up. My refrigerator light is probably on with the door closed too and I don't know it.

I am curious though if anyone has hooked it up and where they tapped the wire since I would like to do this soon. I will probably tap the cigarette lighter.

How can you tell if the glove box light is on when its closed?

do you have X Ray vision?

Do you see light coming from it at night?

Take out the bulb - problem solved. Unless you've got an ungodly amount of crap in there, a glovebox light is frivolous.
