Gauge Pod(s)

Been working on a new gauge pod solution ... 3 individual pods in the OEM dash panel. Looking for feedback and comments on design. The texture is VERY close to OEM ... but still needs a bit of tweaking.

They are 52mm. I used the 350Z as a "model".

Thats gonna look hot once you get the right color on the dash. I like how it's different, since in my opinion the pillar gauges are starting to get played out. I think a set of DEFI BF gauges would match up perfectly with the interior lighting. Keep us updated.

Yes ... again ... these are 52mm.

I have had discussions with AutoMeter regarding their Nexus meters. They are very slick and well made. They closely match OEM and they support 7 colors, including red and white, just like OEM.

I am also looking into what is needed to modify those gauges to make the blue glow work when the doors are opened and when the "night" mode is active. Think I have that pretty well worked out too.

You mean the PMC-120???

I am working on a flip up screen housing as well that might suit those needs. Guess we'll have to see.

Like I said above, modified OEM ... the complexity of the OEM piece is for all intents and purposes non-reproducible.

A flip up dash like the OEM sat nav screen would be fantastic, as Mazda want meggabucks for the piece, as you cant buy it without a screen in it !!!!!!
I would be very interested in getting hold of a pop up dash if you're thinking of knocking a few out???

Looking good, what are you going to house in there?
Im getting an audio link so hopefully sometime in the future I can mount a PMP-120 in there.

Designed around the Xenarc 7" displays ... but others will fit as well, as long as the dimensions work.

Is there loads of space under that OEM dash when you take it off, where the sat nav would normally be??
And is it easy to get off?

wankel youre the man, i will most def. buy that gauge pod if it comes out exactly like the pic you posted. its exactly what i been looking for its very similar to the Fujita Engineering (FEED) gauge pod i love it!!! -- 52 mm gauge size is also what i want.

I WANT ONE NOW!

Red face Looks Excellent!!

Derwankel,

I am very interested. I was wondering, is it possible to combine both the flip-up screen with the guage pods? Also, any hope of a version that would support the Defi BF guages?

Thanks,
Lynn

The pods with the screen is "possible" ... I may offer that as an option down the road a bit. That will be a fairly complex part to make, and I imagine there would be somewhat limited interest. Right now I have plenty to do just getting these gauge pods and flip screen done.

The BF gauges are 60mm ... and in my opinion do not look well proportioned on the dash top. They look more like big frog eyes sitting up in the PTP and others I have seen. The only way they look "good" is in the MS pod, and since that has been "done", no need to do it again. The 52mm are plenty big and well proportioned to the dash. This is, of course, my opinion.

The best gauges, IMHO, are the AutoMeter Nexus (52mm). They can be changed from white to red and back to match the OEM look (which you can't do with the Defi). So, in other words, I am not planning on supporting the 60mm gauges. There are others out there that already do that.

Thanks for your interest.

Derwankel,

Thank you for the quick reply. I will take your advice and stick to the 52mm guages when the parts are available. I would be very interested in discussing the creation of the combo piece. If you could send me contact information I would greatly appreciate it. (I was not able to find my way to the Dark Side...

Thanks again,
Lynn
