Gauge Pod for center dash

Hey everyone, I wanted to get some opinions. I am working with Tsunami and we are deciding if it is worth it to design and sell a urethane triple gauge pod for the center dash console. The design would be consistent with something Mazda would sell from the dealer, unpainted but can be used unpainted since it would come in black. This would replace the current stock dash piece similar to the PTP gauge pod. My main question is how many would be interested in this piece and what price do you think is reasonable for a triple gauge pod for the center dash? Thanks in advance.

daaaaaaaaaaaaaamn $342.00? thats the kind of price i hope this pod doesnt go for in the end. ive been trying to get rkostolni to make me a dash pod just like this one from Fujita Engineering (FEED) http://www.fujita-eng.com/rx8/img/pl_005.jpg -- i REALLY REALLY like the design but its positioned for the right hand drive cars it goes for $186 -- maybe because it looks like it just sits on top of the dash other than replacing the whole piece? i dont know but if it means to keep the cost down im for it. and also could you make it to be fitted with 52 mm gauges? i think if you get enough people i think the price shouldnt be over 200 bucks.

so heres my wish list for the pod:
1) make it look like Fujita Engineering's (FEED) pod
2) make it to be accommodate 52 mm gauges

thanks and good luck you guys.

and when is Racing Beat coming out with their pod?

rock the vote b**ches

I have a PTP pod and had pay a premium for it. The nice thing was that is made out of an actual OEM center console part which is over $200.00 to buy! Being that the gauges and controller cost more than the pod, it is a significant investment. Although there are a few flaws in the pod, the amount of work that goes in them almost makes me feel guilty for paying as much as I did. The pod looks as if it is an upgrade that was offered for the car. The only pod I have seen that compares is the 350z pod. This being said I would think that for an aftermarket to be available to the masses, a few things would be helpful:

1. The pod has to look like it is a stock part of the car (color and texture).
2. It has to fit gauges that are priced reasonably.
3. Sell it seperately, and offer a "package deal" that includes everything you need for install.
4. Maybe sell an RX8 installation kit (oil filter adapter, water temp adapter, etc...)
5. Good instructions on how to install the pod itself.

For me 3,4 and 5 made my installation so bad, I had to take it to a shop!.

Sorry about the long post! Hope it helps.

Thanks for all the info guys, Much appreciated and I am working to make sure all the main things you guys stress on here are implicated into the prototype as far as the look you like, price, and user friendly as far as installation and offering the best fit possible and look as if you picked it up from the factory. We will take everything into account, Even that the pod sits in a high heat area and will be prone to flexing with high heat temps, so we are also looking at many types of materials.

Thanks again for your input, Keep it coming.

I really like the look of the RE Amemiya RX-8 Triple Meter Panel in carbon fiber. I thought that was a good price for carbon fiber so I would hope the plastic one would be cheaper.
