FYI 6 cd changer & tape/md don't fit

I just bought my 8 this week and asked about getting the 6 cd in-dash changer and the md player, but they said the both don't fit inside the dash. I'm assuming the 6 cd changer and the tape player won't both also fit. I ended up just keeping the single cd player and added the factory md player.

And for all those who want to know why I care about an MD player...I'm also a DJ and record all my sets on my MD player. Cheapest and easiest way to record a DJ set.

eh no, I HAVE the 6 cd changer AND a tape deck on my 8, they fit fine :p

you should get the MP3 cd player anyway, more songs per CD than any 6 cd changer could ever handle :o

two things

one your dealership is an idiot as the 6disc indash fits just fine

two there are cheaper and easier ways to record a DJ set-ie virtually any MP3 player with Line-in (easier to download in high quality and edit too)

Really? Why are they so retarded then? Man, gonna have to talk to someone else there to get this straight. Do you know how much the installation of the 6 cd changer is or can I do it myself? I also don't listen to mp3s.

What mp3 player can you record directly to and how much can you record. Isn't there a sound quality loss on mp3s, due to the compression?

some of the mp3 players allow ogg and flac recordings...some even uncompressed wav...the quality will far surpass MD..even the IPOD can have an line-in with an accessory but the Creative Mp3 players have better sound fidelity

as for 6disk...definitely install it yourself if you want to buy the unit get it at www.mazdaparts.com it will be WAY cheaper than your dealer

Thanks, I'll check out the mp3 players, but will still be sticking with the MD for awhile since I still have all the equipment and it's easy enough for me to keep track of mixes. Also it's less likely to get stolen when I'm spinning out. How difficult is it to install the indash 6 cd change? Do you just pull out the old one and plug in the new one?

use this for the removal and installation....obviously don't take apart the HU core and solder...just swap out the CD drives...if u have an automatic tranny then there is another DIY to simplify removing the center console piece:

I just picked up my car yesterday talked to the lead service person at the dealership who showed me how the minidisc player is larger than the tape player and that the 6 cd changer will fit with a tape player also, but not with the md player. I guessing I'm one of the few people in the world who actually put the md player in so I don't know if I'll be able to find out for sure unless I take apart the whole dash.

I wonder, if you follow the ipod installation with the soldering and using the 74/80min of blank audio CD to detect the ipod, will it disable the 6 CD changer afterwards? So if you wanna select ipod as the source, you will have to select "CD" then? Any way to use the 6 cd changer and ipod as and when? Like connecting the ipod to the TAPE/MD input and when you want the ipod, select "TAPE/MD"?

Sorry for the "too many" questions... :o

There's a port for PIE connector on the 6 CD changer HU? Thought with the 6 CD changer in front, there's no port for a Disk Changer connector at the back... True enough, the PIE adaptor is the best option...

it is your lucky day :D

the 6 disc cd changer is the exact same size as the single disc and uses the same module location and internal port...not the external port the PIE or External disc changer would use

so if you have the 6 disc internal (mazda) and want PIE you can have it

Wow .. why are Dealers so Lame..

you can have 6 disk and the MD player.. Yes the Tap and the MD deck use the same mounting spot in the Rack. But who would want a Tape deck today?
YOu can run the 6 disk and the Md or 6 disk and the Tape..

Again.. USe a PIE input http://www.mazdaparts.com/ProductDet...000-1112606399

and you will have awsome Clear CD quility audio from anything you plug into the PIE.. and yse you can selelct it with your steering wheel buttons.

Meaning you can still use the external port behind a 6-CD changer HU and connect to an external CD changer instead of a Tape/MD deck?
