Four little slots by your right knee?

I've been working under the dash to find a place to put a powered speaker for my remote radar detector (see my thread in the DIY forum). I have set it behind the four vertical slots on the dash near the driver's side right knee. Looks like something else could be mounted there, but it's wide open and empty behind those slots.

Some one mentioned it might be the location for the AudioPilot microphone. But others disagree, say the AudioPilot microphone is up on the dash near the windshield. I got Bose and AudioPilot... and nothing is down there where those slots are.

So I guess I have 2 inter-related questions:
1- what goes behind those slots?
2- where is the AudioPilot microphone?

The mic is down by your right knee. The thing up on the dash is a speaker. See the page from the workshop manual attached below detailing where the AudioPilot mic is.

Can't answer #1 off of the top of my head, but #2 is actually in that location.

The audiopilot microphone is located under dash to the right of the steering column.

So aparantly I don't have AudioPilot. Even though I hava a Bose system and an AudioPilot option in my settings. But, I don't have a microphone assembly behind the dash. I do see the connector on the harness where it plugs in.

Can I get the microphone assembly anywhere?

Don't know why you DON'T have a mic there. Might be something you may want to talk to your dealer about? Don't know if you can just order the mic by itself, but the part # should be FE01-66-EM0, as listed in the parts listing.

NP, True. Part of the confusion is that I aparantly don't have a microphone where maybe I should.

Will be talking to my dealer.

Those slots are for the interior temperature sensor for the JDM cars with auto climate. That's how they regulate cabin temperature. My ls400 and prius also have them. Sucks...I wish we had auto climate over here, too!

I have AudioPilot and there was nothing behind the 4 slots. So, that's where I mounted the IR receiver for the DVD player.

Limbo....

.....if you do a little 'limbo' so you can look up under the dash, you will find the AP mic about halfway between those slots, and the throttle pedal. Up under the bottom lip of the dash, small metal faced microphone by the dash support. (marked 'Bose'!) :D
Two brown/yellow wires run to it.

Thanks for the info chrisman. Everything is clear now

StealthTL, I did the limbo stunt, and sure enough I saw the little round metal microphone pointing down to the floor right at the bottom edge of the dash.

This means I'm free to use those slots for my remote radar detector speaker. You can see how I mounted the speaker on my thread on the Bel RX75 in the DIY forum.
