Fitting Aftermarket Bose

Hi guys,

this is my first post as i just bought my rx8 yesterday and was gutted to realise I don't have the BOSE speaker upgrade.

My question is this, can i buy the Bose speakers myself (second hand) and have them fitted to my car? or do they need programming into the head unit?

Thanks guys for reading my first ever post!

I don't have an answer for you, but I do have the Bose audio system in my R3. In my opinion...and I don't consider myself an audiophile...you can do a WHOLE lot better in terms of sound quality with other aftermarket components. I wouldn't get too hung up on the Bose system; it's good, but far from great.

i have bose my self which im going to replace it out. dont get me wrong its good for a starter system, i like my audio to flow nicely in other words i noticed that if u have bose and sit in the back seat sound like junk sit in the passanger seat sound & bass tarts to better but in the drivers position thats were its sounds best no matter what u listen to, just my opinion, it would be wiser just to put together your own system. Change out the rear speakers with 6x9 and rear tweets the doors and such power it all up with an amp and it will sound better than bose.

but to answer your question yes u can by bose second hand, i belive someone on the forum has done that, already try a search its may have been in 2007 or 2008 im not sure.

If you'll go though the threads, you'll see that it's far easier to upgrade the base stereo than to upgrade the bose system. Going from base --> bose would be a huge amount of work and you'd still get only mediocre results. Go base --> aftermarket, unless there are very specific reasons to do otherwise.

You cannot swap in the Bose system with a non-Bose car. The headunit itself is different. You'd also have to mount/wire the Bose amp in the trunk and amps/crossovers in each door. WAAYYY more work than it's worth.

Go aftermarket. It's a no brainer.

If you need help selecting equipment, just holla.

Either way, there are far more companies out there that provide better car audio sound than Bose. Bose is to car audio what Monster is to home theater.

Agreed. They make good stuff..... but "viciously overpriced" is exactly how I'd put it.
