I just (finally) bought my RX-8 a couple of weeks ago and it has the nav system. At first I figured that it was an expensive toy and sort of regretted paying the almost $2k for it. Now, if this works, suddenly it looks like a very good idea. DVDs, game systems, mp3 players...they should all easily hook up.

waiting for thew to get his unit in from japan...and install and test it...we must be patient although I am antsy as all hell to see this thing working!

 

i think ill get it maybe friday .. if were all lucky.. seems easyer to get stuff from Japan to CAliforina then CA to NY

hehe tracking says it will be in SF tommrow.. if it clears customs ok i could see it friday

Are japan parts orderable from US Dealers? I have a gift certificate that can only be redeemed by a mazda dealer apparently

 

some parts are but not many..
check with Trussvill MAzda. one of our vendors.. If it can be gotten be a Dealer they will tell ya..

 

so thew what does tracking say?? (we must sound like kids in the back of the car 'are we there yet???')

Now.. From the instructions.. (that i cant read) it looks like theres one of these for the non Nav cars to.. they make one that is just the Audio part of the connector... But Also from the instructions this is supposed to plug into the T.V. tuner that MAzda puts in the 8s in Japan... IT clearly plugs into the back of the tuner witch is mounted in the trunk behind the trunk lining on the passanger side. But the t.v tuner seems to plug into the Nav unit...

So I will be ripping my car apart to see if it can use the connector on the Head unit or the DVD player.. Also we may have the wireing in our trunk. I can see it on the wireing Diag in the shop manual.. So wish me luck .....

And I am not sure about the audio only version.. they clearly make one..

Do you have any info one the DVD unit in our 8's I think its a Panasonic but it says Matsushita on the bottem.. IN order to make this work we need the Wireing Diag for the DVD unit.

After taking the car apart. I have found that the Head unit connector is all wrong.. Just like I thought.. But the unused connector on the back of the map dvd is almost the same.. Upon futher inspecton I discoverd a hidden connector on the dvd unit.. its cover by some silver tape. Either one of these must be the Input path for the Mazda T.V. unit that we are missing.. It is there that this input is supposed to be plugged in.. IT would be mounted in the trunk. I took mine apart and found that the Wireing harness from the OEM DVD and Sound sysem runs to the spot where the t.v. tuner would be.. But theres no breaks in it.. No plugs nothing.. they just stoped short of givving us the connector to plug this in...

So If were going to make this work we need to get the wireing info for the DVD unit. I am so sure that its one of those to plugs i can taste it...

I need all of you to help me find this info ..
