DRLs on my RX-8

I am trying to make my RX-8's medium beam headlights to work as DRLs (Daytime Running Lights). I'm gonna use OSRAM's Ultra-Life lamps, since they are really durable (but not so bright for night driving). I've come up to this relay: http://www.finishlineperformance.com...cat=338&page=3
which might do the trick, provided I find an electrician to fit it correctly (local Mazda says they have no clue). I've asked finishlineperformance thru their website form, if this relay is the one for me (i.e. it turns the headlights on whenever I start the car), but they didn't reply . Anyone knows what this relay actually does? Thanks.

Yes, it also is the
677403 L11067730 RELAY,N.O.( BLACK 4 PIN )
IGNITION RELAY STARTER CUT RELAY HEAD LAMP RELAY (Required: 003)
Do you happen to know if this can be used the way I want it, or does it do the opposite, that is just cut the lights when the ignition is turned?
Thanks.

I believe that is a momentary relay, so it is basically doing the opposite. Relay stays active for a temporary period of time, i.e. when you push the trunk open button, or like you said, cuts power to various components when turning the ignition to reduce load.

Isn't there an off the shelf way to convert from US spec to CN spec to get DRL's?

You may wish to consider a simpler option, which is to wire the foglight switch in such a way that they can be turned on independantly of the headlights. It's at most an hour's work.

It's likely the best way to go if you have the factory HID's since it keeps the running hours off the $650/each xenons.

I would go with the fogs. Mine are now enabled by the ignition, come on when the car comes on, and I can use the stalk switch to shut them off if I like.

Yes. To be clear, the mod link I gave above allows just that.

Looks kinda cool too.

Unlucky enough.. my RX-8 has no fog lights (fog lights are not a prerequisite in my country, except from the tail one). I'd also have to turn them off everytime when driving at nights, since it's illegal over here to drive with fog lights on, unless there's fog or you're driving on a mountain road with continuous s-turns. I don't have HIDs so running hours wouldn't be a problem at all with my halogen Osram ultra-life lamps. I wonder if some skilled car electrician could do the trick on the headlamps, the same way with the fog lights solutuon.
