Does anyone use an aftermarket shiftknob?

I was just wondering, I've seen some at autozone and was thinking of getting one. I've also seen them on websites rangeing for 20-120 bucks. I've also heard that the titanium ***** give you better leverage during throws, any truth to that?

it fits better in my hand, doesn't get too hot where you can't grab it, seems like it's a little bit shorter than the stock one, and it's all black. oh, and it doesn't get slippery or whatever when your hands sweat from all the excitement.

Titanium giving better leverage?? It may weigh and few tenths of an ounce less. Leverage would only be produced by a higher lever. Whoever told you that is a total idiot.

Momo Rules eBay saved me abot $50.
Unfortunately, I had to cut about an inch off the shaft.. No big deal except the stock **** won't fit anymore.

I have the Pearl Magnum, and coupled with RP's short shifter, shifts are so quick and precise its absurd. Its beautiful also, and feels great in your hand, perfectly balanced.

If you're gonna get a new one, make it shorter. I have an ARC Titanium ball. It's small, short, and not too light.

Does it really make a difference where I buy it from? I saw RAZO? shift **** for 20 bucks at a tuner shop and MOMO for 130. The difference is in the brand only right? I was looking at an Ichiban for 28 bucks and it looked pretty nice, it even comes with a decorative box.

I replaced mine with an OMP Neptune shift ****. saferacer.com has a clearance on these. http://www.saferacer.com/ompshiftknobs.html

I tried cheap shift **** from Kragen years ago on my Miata and the finish started peeling off after a week.

I have a Sparco ****, the X-Fast. Pretty much bought just to get something different than stock, but I like the way it fits in my hand better. I never really dug the rotor shape of the stock ****.

Voodoo Magnum Pearl for me. The Pearl is a perfect match for the interior metalic trim. The round **** is very comfortable and sits low on the shaft. One word of warning. If you park in the hot sun, the **** can heat up. This has pretty much been eliminated since I had my windows tinted and I usually put a front window sun shade up when I will be away for a while.

i too have a team voodoo ****, I originaly got it for my miata, when i sold it I kept it and used it on the rx8, its great!

it drops the height of the shifter a little and i love the feel of it.

Mine is the one on the left of the picture, its about the size of a golf ball, maby a little bigger around, its metal and has a black textured coating, similar to a truck bed lining only not as ruff, it feels very nice in my hand. The top of the stock shift **** hurts my hand, plus i just really like my old ****, we have had some good times....lol

when looking for a shift ****, just pick out something you like the look and feel of. also make sure its counter balanced so that it wont vibrate to much.

I will agree that the **** in all day in the car does get hot being black metal.

Ichiban is real nice and feels great! Just changed my stock manual shifter out and could not believe how easy it was. It comes with 3 different size boots that slip over the shift lever, so when you install the new ****, it's snug. I have the red/black interior and my new **** is red leather. $27.99 and looks as good as the Mazda red leather shifter which cost around $160.00

Shape....

I find the "Viper" shape to be the most comfortable.( the same shape as Mr. EyeballFixer has, above.)

Here is mine, red/black stitched, and cost all of $8 on ebay.
The photo is terrible, my interior is obviously red, not pink, but you can get the idea! :D

I, too, have the Voodoo Magnum pearl finish. Makes shifting very smooth and shortens the throw quite a bit. Matches the interior great. Wait until you see how heavy the stock one is.......

I also vote for the Voodoo pearl. I couldn't believe the difference it made in shifter feel when I first put it on.

^^^ Same here -- nice addition, and matches the brushed aluminum interior components.
