Ok, I want to put the pioneer avic-z1 in my car. I plan on fiberglassing a new dash panel. I have no desire to keep the display up at the top functional as I plan on putting an rx8 logo with some leds highlighting it around. I can't even see the red display during the day when the sun is out. My question is. Does removing the factory HU disable the display ONLY. Or does it actually stop the a/c from functioning at all. Again i couldn't care less if the display stops working because I hate it and i don't need a display to tell me which vents the air is coming out of. If anyone knows for absolute sure I would love to hear some feedback. Thanks!

 

It stops the entire A/C system from working. If you do some searching there is a company (for the Mazda6...) that makes a replacement A/C controller so you don't need the radio any more. There was speculation it would work on the RX-8. (They should be the same units.)
