Dead Battery + Car Alarm
Dead Battery + Car Alarm
Hello,
I'm deployed and a buddy of mine is watching my 2004 RX-8. Recently the battery died and when he tries to jump it, the alarm starts going off and won't let him start the vehicle. I didn't even know the car had an alarm, I guess it's factory. Is there a switch or something on the inside of the car that kills the alarm? What can i do?

Job One would be to re-charge the battery, nice and slow, so you don't do further damage.
Then you can start troubleshooting the systems.
(If 'buddy' connected the booster cables backward it may already be too late....)

There is no switch for the alarm, sounds like computer damage.
No way to know until the battery is back to life - the computer might just be 'stupid' due to low volts.......

OK got home and the battery was shot. Went and bought a new battery. Upon installing the new battery and hooking up the terminals, the flashers and the horn starts going off (like an alarm). The car starts. We took the fuse for the horn out cause it was annoying. After a few minutes the flashers turn off and then start backup about a few minutes later. The car sounds fine, but is not driveable. I don't have an alarm clicker...is there anything i can do?
