Ok, I just jumped in. Got just the head unit in piano black, no adapters. I'll cross that bridge in a couple months. My 8 is still stored up for the winter. $421 shipped.

Thanks Pat... hey I herd today the the pioneer Avic D3 has a saftey feature that does not let you watch dvd's or make changes to the navigation while the car is in motion. Is this true?

Any indash DVD player has this. MOST of them, you can ground out the parking brake wire to bypass it...... however the D3 is a little more involved. I believe you de-pin the mute wire from it's harness and re-pin it in the open slot below it's original position. Then ground both the mute wire and parking brake wire out.

Damn it. I'm pissed I can't remember it exactly..... just did one 3 days ago.... Google. I'm sure you can find it.

Seems like a trend with everyone going with the Avic series. Anyone have others in mind that they are getting or have? I still can't decide. I hate to buy a head unit only to have to buy adapters for bluetooth, Ipod, etc. Let's hear some ideas.

I have a Alpine IVA W202R now Why? Because I can hook up an PXA-H701 later on with an optical cable, and then I'll have all the filter/eq/ta options I'll ever need

yeah that alpine one looks alright too. Actually I'm more interested in the surround sound. The Pioneer unit I want is expensive though so we will see. I totally forgot about Kenwoods

I'm wondering this too....

And I'm thinking about the Eclipse 5510. I get a deep discount on Eclipse gear, so it only makes sense. A huge bonus about this unit is that it has TWO optical drives. One that plays CDs and one for DVDs. Now you can leave the navi disc in the DVD drive all the time, and still play CDs at your leisure.

JVC makes a really nice double din unit as well, has an extra usb input, sd card slot, all the other regular features. It may not be as glamorous as some of the bigger names, but this thing is rock solid and about half the price.

(you can actually find them for right around 500 shipped if you dig around a bit)

eclipse has a decent product, but their accessories suck!!!!!!!!!! about a 50% failure rate on the sat tuner for sirius, bluetooth absolutely sucks
