i love this idea since my factory unit looks to have sh!t the bed. Definately willing to drive without sound till this comes out, do you have to pre-order, or can you wait until release and order one then?

Blackout04RX 08-06-2008 11:58 AM

ive heard from a few shops that they can get this kit now if i wanted to order it. is it officially being shipped?

canaryrx8 08-06-2008 12:47 PM

if it were me and you have the funds now, I'd go ahead and order it, I'm pretty sure these are shipping within the next few weeks, just waiting to hear back from a few folks. ;)

Did you order yours from installer.com? I checked their site and found the double DIN kits for $179 (Part #95-7510 - Flat Black) and $219 (Part #95-7510HG - Hi-Gloss Black):

Is anyone finding any other prices?

canaryrx8 08-06-2008 02:57 PM

Not yet, installer.com seems to have the jump on everybody as far as the preorders are going.

HaiDoGGRX-8 08-06-2008 06:01 PM

yeah i wanted to see if the audio shop can preorder it for me, if not imma order it from installer.com.

raphy3 08-06-2008 07:47 PM

I've waited this long, I can wait till the initial rush is over and I get mine for the proper MSRP, whatever that ends up being. For one thing the Hi Gloss and the matte should be the same price if I'm not mistaken.

ShellDude 08-06-2008 08:08 PM

My apologies up front for this leading us a little OT, but I can't resist. Something like this has serious implications for those of us trying to figure out how to carputerize cannabalizing the nav system, or space meant for it.

Double din... saving grace is I assume it'd work fine with this kit...

http://www.blogsmithmedia.com/www.en...1-carputer.jpg

Here's more on it... It hit engadget a couple weeks back and I completely forgot about it until earlier today.

http://www.engadget.com/2008/07/31/k...-mk1-carputer/

Very vapor at the moment, but perhaps it, or a variant will make its way states side at some point in the not too distant future.

raphy3 08-06-2008 09:32 PM

hmm, mp3car used to have a double-din car PC that exactly had double-din dimensions.

http://store.mp3car.com/v/vspfiles/photos/SDK-014-4.jpg
It even had outputs with the right line levels so you could splice them right into your harness and have the carpc output directly to speakers. It was $2k though, so pretty much no one went for it considering for that kind of money you can get a good PC plus several screens and more bling plus paid installation.... It also only had a Via C7. I think they discontinued it.

Here's a link; you can't get to it from their site, have to google it an link in from outside.

I believe the MK1 would be a bit more open in that it runs XP and you can run a wide array of apps on it ranging from sCANalyser, AP Manager, Media Center, etc.

I have no idea on what pricing will be and it's currently only available in Hong Kong. Something like this would dramatically simplify my planned integrated umpc install if it ever makes the light of day.

I'm with you. I can handle waiting a little longer. Besides, I haven't decided what's going in that spot quite yet.

Someone posted this a while back in this thread.
Single Din Carpc under $800 for the most expensive one.

lilliput has this one, I don't know much about it but I considered buying it a while back along with a flip out to put on top of it etc.

cesaralaniz and canary thanks for the links. I had no idea there were even single din carPC's available. If there was a nice DD unit around like the one Shelldude posted a picture of I'd be all over it, especially if it let me just replace the HU altogether. Could be tough since I have the Bose system, but the metra kit is supposed to fix that problem I think.

if you want to go small.. just get a mini itx case/mobo and build around it... they are more than enough for carpc applications if you chose your hardware wisely.. click my sig to see my setup.

J_Owens 08-08-2008 03:17 AM

back to the group buy, anyone thinking of doing a group buy? would be nice if we could get a better deal for a group buy, i am deffinatly in if so, i have been waiting forever for a cheaper solution then corksport

Rx8mybaby 08-08-2008 06:34 AM

definitely down for the group buy... have been anxiously awaiting release for the last month or so... have my system together and ready to get installed.. :) (badly in need of boom... going through withdrawals)

I have a c134 and a couple years back ran it with a hanging LCD in my Durango. That's always an option, but the prospect of an all in one double din unit is enough to put off going back down that path.

SX-Tech 08-08-2008 10:32 AM

will this fit the 09 r3?

J_Owens 08-08-2008 01:36 PM

can someone with good connections with metra get a group buy going? like maybe canary or someone else who is in constant contact with metra

rollerbldes 08-08-2008 04:03 PM

I am also interested in this group buy if it gets going.

canaryrx8 08-08-2008 04:13 PM

I'll see what I can do, not sure what all is involved or how much it costs or anything so i'll check into it this weekend and see if I can get something going, unless someone beats me to it lol

mr80 08-08-2008 04:14 PM

I'll be all over a group buy

rollerbldes 08-08-2008 04:19 PM

It would be awesome if metra gave us an early batch before the retailers.. but I highly doubt that.

raphy3 08-08-2008 08:04 PM

group buy +1
