Yes, they are my standoff favorite alarm/rs system that I both use personally for the last 6 years now and will recommend to any customer wanting a good reliable unit. The unit itself though is only as good as the installer.

Compustar

I bought one before the FCC made them reduce their range. Under perfect conditions mine has a 6,000 foot range.

I guess the new ones have a 4,000 foot range, still can't complain about that.

My uncle has one in his H2, has had it for a couple of years and still loves it.

I have to install one in his 50th Anniversary Corvette (Z06).

I totally agree, ANY remote start or alarm is only as good as the installer.

Does your remote have the LCD with the car on it? Remote #: 2WSSR (old style
6,000' range)?

What conditions does it not respond?

I used to have one. It was the older style remote. I didn't have any complaints with it.

What does the LCD screen tell you anyway? I've been looking at their website and other dealers that sell Compustar alarms to get a 'bigger picture' but can't seem to find one.

It tells why the alarm is going off. ie: someone jimmys the door it alarms you with beeping and shows the car door opening. It has the tunk; hood and shows smoke coming out of the tail pipe to confirm that the car started.

Another benefit of this product is it has a turbo timer built in. It will run for 3 minutes to cool the turbo down if you want.

Not that I can see. This could be bad though, especially if it were parked in a garage. It does have a cold start option which a person programs before leaving the vehicle. Will start every 1-3 hours, good for extreme cold days not under shelter.

The remote works really good though so as long as a person remembers to hit the buttons to start it, they will have a warm car.

IT does have a winter mode where it will start for 5 minutes every hour or so, but don't do that to your RX8

No hold button, but to get it to start you have to hold the second button for a few seconds.

A compustar requires a series of events to happen in order for you to remote start the vehicle. Meaning the following.

(1) park vehicle in neutral with engine running.
(2) apply and hold foot brake.
(3) apply hand brake.
(4) release foot brake.
(5) remove keys. (vehicle is still running and therefor is not in gear)
(6) open door.
(7) close door.

At the point that the door is closed, the vehicles engine will turn off. Now the vehicle can be remote started.

**** Bonehead clause ****

If you leave your window down and reach in and put the vehicle in gear, it will start in gear, so don't be a bonehead!

Hmm... I do not have those complications with my compustar for the remote start, but the turbo timer requires those EXACT sequence of events to function.

To do a MANUAL transmission you do not cut the wire inside of the brain. It is usually a green wire.
