Checklist for all around Bose system upgrade:

Hello all,

I own a 2005 RX8 with the factory 9 speaker bose system, and would like to upgrade it to something a little more beefy. Like everyone I do have a budget but we shall get to that in a bit.

My general plan at the moment is to upgrade the speakers/tweeters in the doors, and also the rear deck speakers, if im going to do this right I suppose I will need an aftermarket amp to push all these properly and forget about power from the head unit.

What I've come up with on my own so far in terms of parts:
Door/Tweeter: Infinity Kappa KAPPA60.7CS 6.5" Component speakers X 2
Rear/Deck: Alpine SPR-69LP 6X9's X2

Other parts: what else would I exacly need to get my system up and running? I.E. wires, or ANY other type of devices? I know enough to just drop in replace the speakers but with crossovers and other things between the amp/speakers I'm a little nervous because I just dont know. Once I start saving/collecting all the parts once I start on this I would like to complete this all in one day/weekend and not have to drive around with a brokeass sound system for a week or two. So, besides the fronts and rears and amp (which I need suggestions on) what else would i need?

Now my questions are as follows:
1) I noticed the impedence of the Infinities are 2Ohms, and the impedence of the Alpines are 4ohms, is this a problem?

2) I also need an amp that can power all four of these speakers... suggestions?

3) Since I have the bose system, I was just looking around under my rear deck and the stock bose amp under the deck... does that power ALL the speakers in the RX8? or are the fronts/tweeters powered off something in the front?

4) The center speaker on the dashboard... is it work fooling with to replace? Where does it get its power from? and If replacement was an option, what would fit there? a 6X9? or what?

Thanks for all your help (hopefully)!

Cheers
Jeff

Jeff, go to 4 ohm speakers all the way around. I would also try and match them by brand for as close a tone / timbre as possible. Good idea to keep it simple in the rear. As this is a Blows system and I summise that you are leaving the factory radio intact, you need either a basic interface (called a LOC) or the far superior advanced interface, the Audio Control 6XS or LC6 or LC8. Do a search on the Audio Control gear to pull up the info. You are also going to need some rather large mounting adaptors to go into the doors. Here is a link to a thread I developed to show you how to get past the door molex with your speaker wires from the amp you will be using.

Read the grounding sticky on this forum as well, there is something to be learned there. A 50 w rms x 4 amplifier is more than enough power to drive the front and rear speakers, go bigger if you like or if you plan on installing a sub system that is a monster.
