OK I am waiting on my car to arrive, I have a question, How do you change the casing for the orange turn signals? Is it hard to do?

This one's for you syntrix:

I took at look at your web page on swapping out the stock RX-8 lights. Awesome! I've been really disatisfied with the high beams so I'm definitely going to replace those with the AdvancedOptik H9's you installed.

My questions are about the fog lights:

You mentioned that the Yellow Ion bulbs are more effective in rain and fog than white. Can you explain why?

How do the AdvancedOptik Yellow Ion bulbs compare with the stock fog lights?

How do you swap out the fog light bulbs?

Other people have complained that the fog lights are nearly useless because they only come on with the headlights and these are so bright that they reflect off the rain/fog thus defeating any benefit from using the fogs. There's a simple rewiring that can be done to allow the fogs to come on at any position of the light switch. I wondered if you found the yellow fog lights are more effective even when the stock headlights are on?

Thanks for putting together all this very useful information on your web site!

[BTW, I'd still love to see an AFR graph from running the engine for 10 seconds at each 1,000rpm increment, to confirm that the ECU is running the engine rich at certain parts of the rev range.]

In the past cars, the philips bulbs have been great.

The yellow optik is not as yellow, but I also have yet to drive in fog/rain with them in.

To replace the fogs, just undo the lower panel, reach up in there... and give the connector a twist, you can see the 3 flanges holding it in through the front of the fog light.

I have a good jack, so I did jack up the car to get some more room for my hands

I'm going to do the rewire this weekend in between autoxs'. And next bad weather, I'll be able to tell. Most of my time has been adjusting the new JIC's after work so far.

A/F will be different at different throttle positions. Same with the load, unless you are really closed loop (WOT).

I hope to have time to wire in a few more things into A/F box this weekend. I have a lot to do before doing Buttonwillow in January

Thanks for checking out the pages on my site!

Yes, and it's exactly my setup. Highs are H9's wether you have HID's or Halogens for the low beams!

D2S 35W for the HID.

I've thought about changing them out to aftermarket bulbs at some point in the future!

Sounds like the LEDs you're getting are either defective or the power going into them is higher than they are rated for. Check the connection with a DMM to see what voltage and amperage is actually getting to the bulb, then compare that to the rating on your LEDs. If it looks ok, then the LED manufacturer is using sub-standard LEDs. Try a different brand, or go back to incandescent bulbs.

Back to running lights being white and not incadescent, here is a close up of the 6 Bright white LEDs I put in when I changed out the stock incadescents. Also, I put amber 6 LED 194s in the clear corners, just to be legal. Since the ones I bought had a yellow base and this showed through the white corner lenses, I covered the base that shows with a chrome tape. Also, note the chrome turn signal lamps.

Don't forget to check the DIY section in this forum. It lists all the bulbs and related codes for the RX-8.

Looking at that brand, I would stay away from it unless you know it's 55watts. It is possible to have a 55w bulb simulate an 80w bulb, which is how they can say light output is 4k, 5k, 6k etc etc. But it is very important to keep within the same spec limits of what is already on there, going to a higher watt bulb will draw more current/electricity potentially causing the wire loom to fry. Typically the fuse will blow, which is what they are designed for.... getting a larger fuse will defeat this purpose.

i've just ordered some bulbs from the above site I found in the DIY section of this forum, the site has had mixed reviews. But they atleast handle returns for defects & they list the actual wattage.

in short those H11 bulbs you are bidding on that are supposedly '8500k' maybe able to reach that because the bulbs are 65+ watt rated bulbs or higher in order to reach that stated claim. Or i could be completely wrong and it's and awesome bulb with a chip built in with capacitors to maintain the high output. at this point I would apply the Akums Razor law.

Best of luck!
