You dont need to set anything up. What I meant by parking lights is your lights that don't blink and just stay on

the parking lights are the small lights that are closest to the Mazda badge...they are the only ones that turn on if you switch your lights to the first position...at the second position, your headlights, fog lights, and corner lights turn on

RotorGeek,

I haven't gotten them yet because I ordered them the exact day the blackouts were in effect and the company i ordered them from were based in SE Canada =\

I got the 194s with the 4 leds on them...i can't wait to put them on as the parking and the corner lights are the only yellow lights on the car now. I'll post pictures as soon as I get them installed.

well just installed the lights...the 4 LEDs emit a very white light with a little bit of violet...they are VERY different from the yellow stock lights...i think it looks great on my black car and it would look great on titanium and silver as well...here are a few pics:

installing

front view, one side done, the other side stock (except H11 fog lights)

before

after...this is a better representation of what it looks like

i'll take more pictures at nighttime as these were taken during the day, very sunny...

i got the sidemarkers from JT-Imports for $80 bucks...

and i seriously think the bright white/violet haze look of the LEDs would go VERY well with titanium gray...i may try and find other bulbs that are more of just a white or i may leave these, i dunno...

For those that have replaced the small lights closest to the front license plate, how were you able to remove the ECU cover in a decent manner? I spent over half an hour last night removing the cover and ended up snapping off one of the clips and breaking one of those wire tie-downs. By the time I got through with switching those lights out, I was surprised my hands weren't yet a bloody mess.

I have to agree with BRx8, that violet light compliments the Xenon's on my silver rx8 much better than the cream colored ones.

Finally got back from my trip, have my lights and decided to change them out. Of course it's been raining so I was only able to do the front driving lights (next to the headlights). I got the 4 LED bulbs as well to try out and here's what I think on those. I like the color, but it's way too much effort and they dont light up as much as the original bulb did. Since LED's are pretty much unidirectional, there is no light being emitted backwards, hence the reflector in the holder doesnt do much. It's one little hotspot and the rest doesnt seem lighted. Of coruse, it might look different at night and I'll check it out, but if your changing the front bulbs stick with a conventional bulb for now. Also the passenger side bulb is a PAIN to get back in even with the ECU cover off. make sure you have someone around with small hands. It will save you a lot of frustration.

I'll tackle the fog lights and others later.

BTW Mikeb, how did you change the rear license plate light? Did you have to remove the whole plastic piece from the inside of the trunk or can you change it without taking it all apart?

The rear license plate light pulls right out. Pull the black piece off completely and it uses a 194 bulb just like the side marks and little lights near mazda bagde in front. It's really easy to change.

I see where the running lights closest to the Mazda badge are 194's - I went to the store (Pepboys) and the 194's look real whimpy.

Does anyone who has replaced the origional know what the wattage was?

I just cant see these cheap $2 194's being bright enough for the front running. Maybe inside dome and back plate, but not front.

Keep away from Pepboys, Walmart, Target etc when it comes to bulbs for your car. Best to purchase them from ebay or another reseller that specialize in high quality bulbs.

I agree pepboys is good for alot of stuff but lighting isn't really one of them. However, they have started to carry alot of aftermarket stuff and they are getting better

My fog lights arrived tonight. 5800K bulbs make an impressive difference to the car. Took about 10 mins to change them, the driver side being alittle trickier with 3 screws needing removed.

I also removed the Parking lights and replaced with LEDS. I purchased Focused LEDS but Inverted may be better. They do indeed create a purple effect which look great, but perhaps not on the flashier colored 8's. Xenon 194s are okay, but against the true low beam xenon they do not compare. I'd stick with LED.

Changed all my lights!

I recently changed all my lights on my rx-8. First I changed all the interior to super white xenon bulbs even the doors, looks very nice at night. Second changed the driving lights(194) and foglights(H-11) to super white to match up with the HID, the foglights look really cool but the driving lights weren't as tight as I tought it would be. Next I changed my xenon blue driving lights(the small lights rear the badge) to PIAA Super Blue LED (cost $25) and they looked way better than the 194 xenon blues but after looking at them for a while they looked way to illegal and where overpowering the headlight color. So finally I returned the Super Blue LED's for Super White PIAA LED's for the driving lights and I finally found the perfect match to our RX-8's! Then with my leftover xenon blue 194's I used them for the license frame and the glove compartment. For any RX-8 owner's that want to upgrade your lighting believe me and just go for the PIAA Super White LED's they are a little expensive but are definitly worth it. The regular xenon 194 bulbs($8) are not that bright and don't really match up to the HID lighing, they do look better than the stock bulbs but don't even come close to the PIAA super white LED's($25)plus the PIAA's LED's are two lights in one so they are super bright!

Peace...
