Center armrest broken >:(

Guys
Anyone know if the lock for the panel thats slides over the cup holder is covered under warrenty?
Everytime i accelerate it slides open and when i brake hard it slides shut.
Very annoying and keeps hitting my right elbow.
Anyone else have a problem with this?
Thanks.

fairly common problem, i have replaced mine once, and it is broke again. just not worth my time to have it fixed now. i will in a few years just before my warantee is up, hopefull by then they will have a better design.

BTW: to fix the problem of the cover sliding foreward during braking(as mine does) they will replace the console piece itself, the part that has the cupholders.

I got mine, and it was fine, but then somebody put some pressure on that part from the side of the panel, rather than the top. That's what set mine off...

Mine's not broken, yet, but it's getter worse pretty fast... I'll probably be talking with the dealer somewhat soon about it.

Sorry to bump an old thread, but my armrest has come off completely, the rails on the sliding part of the rest have broken and it's causing the "cover" to come off the tracks everytime I touch it. I have an appointment at Mazda in the morning but I'm 2k miles out of my bumper to bumper. Is there any chance that they'll cover it?

You know, some dealers might, but I think most won't. Mine's been replaced twice under warranty- it's those little sliders every time- and the second time it was the dealer's fault when Bubba leaned on it with his entire 300-lbs. to put the oil change sticker in the window. What kills me is, those little pieces are not available seperately- you have to replace the entire lid, and IIRC, it's like a $60 or $70 part.

You may check around some local wrecking yards and see if there are any 8's that have a console lid you can buy as salvage, at a lower price- if the dealer won't cover it.

I am 100% positive there is a walkthrough, with pictures, of how you can repair this yourself posted on RX8club. I think I have it bookmarked, but back on my home computer. (On xmas vacation now)

Common issue with relatively fragile part. I had mine replaced under warranty a few years ago as well. Since then I'm careful not to lean my elbow on it when getting in.

Mine has broken too and I am currently out of warranty. I'm looking at getting this one, but I do not know if it includes the latch or not. http://www.partsmazda.co.uk/product-...econsolefrtred Anybody know?
