CDT Audio / Alpine install

I just finished installing the following:

High-to-low: AudioControl LC6i
Front: CDT Audio HD-62/M6i
Rear: CDT Audio CL-69X
Amp: Alpine PDX-4.150
Power: Stinger 4-gauge kit
RCAs: Monster MicroLink XL
Deadening: lots of Dynamat

Here's a link to the Kodak gallery...hope it works: http://www.kodakgallery.com/ShareLan...fromshare&Ux=0

I'm not super happy with it...I think the stock head unit has a lot of distortion...but I think I can live with it for now...I'm planning on adding a 12" CDT Audio subwoofer (not sure which one yet) behind the passenger side wheel well (sort of like a 1080 box) which I'll power with an Alpine PDX-1.600 amp.

Lemme know what you guys think...I know it's been done before and it's nothing new but I'm excited about it so I thought I'd post

REALLY nice setup.. except for the amp..

why would you do so much nice work to everything else and then just strap that down upside down?

do like i did - mount a 1/4 inch peice of wood to the brackets behind the carpet on the side and then use screws to mount the amp through the carpet to that peice of wood -- and mount it right so you can't see the wires and you can get to the amp controls if you need to --

like this -

it will make it look alot more clean in the trunk

They're not really my style, a little too forward, not harsh, just in your face and kinda aggresive...I'm more of a fan of the mellow Dynaudio or Boston Acoutics sound but the guy I usually buy equipment from recommended the CDT Audios so I went on faith since I've known him for years...they're growing on me though, I have to say that their best attribute is they have absolutely no listener fatigue...plus I'm convinced the head unit is crap in terms of signal quality and honestly even though Apline's done a great job with their new amp line, what can you really expect out of a Class D amp?...so overall I'm happy with what I got considering I only spent $1600 and did all the fun labor stuff myself.

I totally agree with you...I'm still looking at subwoofers, so I wasn't sure as to the final mounting location...strapping it in was way too convenient for the time being ...do you have more pics of how you did it?...do you think that double stacking them would work too?...obviously depends on the strength of the wood, but just wanna hear your opinion...post pics please! I'm very visually oriented.

that is all of the pics i have now.. but this week i'm putting a new box in a (qlogic dual 10 that fits between those 2 amps) and i'm putting in 2 type R 10s -- i'll pull the amps off and get some pics when i do that -- should be this week...

and yeah double stacked amps would be no problem -- i just thought having one on each side gave it a more symmetrical look..

Here is what I would change, don't mind me though as I am one picky SOB when it comes to install.

(1) bondo the tweeter mounts, re texture paint and repaint again. They will look a million times better.
(2) take apart the speaker baffles in the door again and remove the deadener off of them. Apply a layer of fibreglass and ensure that the resin soaks right into it. Reapply the deadener again, try for a black finish on it or use what you have and put spray adhesive over it with some black trunkliner on top. This will get rid of the seeing mdf through the speaker grill issue and will also make your baffle board water proof, something that in this car unfortunately is a issue. (I built the ones for the 8 that I did out of 1.4 clear plexi and cut out the speaker grill - thus we could see how much water really was in the door, you can go fishing in there on a rainy day).

(3) set gains properly. If you are hearing distortion, it is due to a incorrect gain setting either on the amps of the LC6i. The 8's headunit is really not that bad at all.

(4) If you like the CDT speakers, that is great. Personally I can't stand them and do not recommend them. My ears prefer Morel and the Vifa made Eclipse components.

Good ideas all of them, but I'm gonna leave the fabrication stuff for another time...not much rain here in Los Angeles anyway!

I don't much like the sound of the CDTs, but I have to live with them for now...will probably get Dynaudios next year or something.

I've decided to continue on the quest I started and add the following:

1 Pioneer Premier DEH-P880PRS head unit
1 Alpine PDX-1.600 amp
1 Stinger SPC505 cap
2 Image Dynamics IDQ12D4 V.2 subs

So here's the the hard part:

a) figuring out where to put the deck...is there a concensus on this yet? which kit should I go with?

b) building 2 fiberglass enclosures...I've never worked with fiberglass, so I'm pretty screwed, but wanna learn...is 1080 still selling boxes? that would be cheating right?
