CD player skipping

Has anyone else noticed the Bose CD player skipping more than other CD players?

While on a road trip this weekend I had a lot of CDs that skipped. Granted, some of the CDs were pretty old and had some scratches, but I've never had this much trouble.

Just curious if I am just imagining things.

Has happened on rough (patched) roads. Seems to depend on the CD as well. Some don't skip on the same roads. I would guess the deck is not shock mounted as well as other systems.

I've noticed that most of my self-burned CDs tend to skip on relatively minor bumps in the road, but that retail CDs rarely skip.

I've noticed that the CD player does skip more than that of other vehicles I've had. If I go over a railroad crossing, it's a pretty good chance I'll get a skip.

all my cd's were stolen from my last car
all my cd's are burned and some do skip but I thought that was because they were burned and not the cd players fault

Nope, every CD I've played in the CD player was purchased

Thanks for all the responses folks.

The only time I've really had a problem was on my road trip. I wonder if the CD player just has trouble when it gets a bit warm from several hours use.

I've definately noticed much increased skipping in the 8. Both with brand new (just out of wrapper) real cds, and the scratced up burned variety. Because the skips are always related to bumps in the road I'm figure inferior shock mounting / stiffer suspension rather than the CD player having trouble tracking any particular kind of disc. The relitivly crappy factory CD player in my honda civic NEVER skipped (can only recall a handfull of times over the many years of ownership), however there is rarely a trip in the 8 where I don't get a skip, and skips occur with even fairly small bumps. Not impressed with the engineering skills applied to the CD player.

Me neither, but I am glad they did apply their engineering skills where they did :D
