Car Alarm Problem

Hey peoples,
Just wanted to see if I could get some opinions/advice. I want to protect my baby as best as possible, and I'm wondering what's out there? Lojack is unavailable in Fresno (probably becuase we have one of the highest car stealing rates). Except for prices, I can't tell the difference between the $100 alarms and the $400. Something visible would be good to, so the stupid thieves don't jack up my door locks before they realize there is an alarm. Thanks in advance!! :D

if they are going to rob your car, an alarm wont stop them

get something for immobilization instead

I agree Pooman. I need an immobilizer, but I also want something that will make noise and be a deterrent to any thief that's just messing with the car or trying to take something out from inside.

Like I've said before, there are more threats to your car than someone stealing it. There is vandalism, smash and grabbers after anything of value in your car, someone after something specific in your car (like an aftermarket stereo they heard thumping down the street), someone after a specific RX8 part on your car, etc. etc.

And even of those who want to steal your car, not all of them are so determined to get at it.

But an alarm can prevent, delay, and/or discourage someone so that they move onto another car. While an alarm won't be able to prevent everything, it will offer better protection.

And the most important part of an alarm is the installation. You could spend $1k on an alarm, but if the install is lousy, it can be easily defeated, have many false alarms, and be unreliable. A good installation by a knowledgable person is very important.

Doesn't the stock 8's alarm include immobilization?

Yes it does but it is not activated by the alarm, the key is "chipped" to the ignition system.
