Can't unlock glovebox

I locked my glovebox the other day while is was in a questionable area, and today I went to unlock it so I could get my much needed item...and it won't unlock. I may need to take it apart, though I have no idea how to do it with it locked or without damaging my dash components. Does anyone have experience, ideas, or suggestions?

By "won't unlock", what do you mean specifically?... The lock won't turn at all (as if you have the wrong key?) Or the lock turns but it still won't open? Other?

And are you sure you aren't using the valet key?

It won't unluck as in no matter which way I turn the key. The locking mechanism seems to have either broken or has somehow become disconnected. I got it to lock, but will not unlock. I have found some diagrams of glovebox locking assemblies but none for an rx-8.

But I did manage to get it open, I used a small pry bar and popped it open. I then removed the locking assembly, disassembled it and checked to see what I had broken by breaking it open. Luckily I had not broken anything, I had popped the latch from the spring. So I reset it and reinstalled the assembly. Now it locks and unlocks just fine. It is strange how it locked and wouldn't unlock. If anyone else ever has the same problem let me know. I'll take it all apart and take pics of assembly for you. Thanks guys!

Ahhh, this happened to me two years ago. I, instead, used a flat head and pressed the striker down to open the glove box. I faced the same dilema when the spring dislodged out of place once the core was locked with the key, however, I was able to turn the core but the glove box didn't open. May be a DIY may come in handy

Are you using a valet key, or the master key?

if you can kindly put up a diy or anything i would appreciate it of how you got into your glove box. my handle broke which leaves me no way of getting into it. the lock works but i have no idea what to press or hit in order to get it to open. can you just pry it open with a flat head? if so i will just do that and buy another lock assembly. (ps i just purchased the car and the handle was broke when i purchased it, so i have no clue what the inside of the glovebox looks like or how it locks. pics or any advise will be appreciated.....thanks

I'll take it apart and post up a DIY for ga broha. I had to pop it open with a pretty sizable flat head, but do it slowly and carefully and as close to the center as possible. The lock wil fall apart so pay attention to any pieces that may pop out.....if you're missing the handle I woul order a new handle assembly regardless.
