Can you put an amp & sub on with the stock headunit?

Just about to pick up my first mazda RX8, wanna know if you can get an amp and sub hooked up the the stock headunit, if not can you even fit an aftermarket unit in there, with a frame/cradle maybe

can't quite find the link in that, which im looking for!!!
I take it the stock headunit has a pre-out for amps, if not, how does it work, sorry, new to the RX8 game, I've always hooked up subs to the easy aftermarket alpine headunits.

The easiest way to do it is to get an amp with low level inputs and tie into the signal for the rear speakers (before the amp if you have BOSE.) Page 3 of this thread has a couple of great pics.

Congrats on picking up the 8 and good luck with your install.

i also have this same question. i'm going to be using a LOC. where do i tap into the speaker wires on the base stereo setup, behind the head unit or is there somewhere under the rear deck?

i'm also planning on running a new route for the power wire that i haven't seen anyone on here using yet. i plan on running it on the driver side and through the rubber boot. for a more stealth look i'll be running it down under the fuse box cover and on to the bolt that holds the power cable there. does anyone see any problems doing it this way? i had my 4 channel amp on my last car done this way and it worked fine but i'm not sure about this one using 4ga wires.

you can tap the wires just before they go into the rear speakers under the rear deck in the trunk.

as for running your wire, through the boot is easy, but I don't understand what you want to do with it after that? most people run it down and into that plastic piece that runs under the door, it's easy to do, completely hidden, and it fits well.

i meant the rubber boot in the firewall. i still plan on running it along the door moulding. i just dont know about hooking the power wire to the fuse box power terminal instead of to the top of the battery.

Oh i see what your saying. but, I honestly don't know if it would cause any problems.
