Unhappy Calling all 500/1 owners...help needed :(

Hi guys,

I am all out of ideas reagrding this problem and hopefully someone reading this will know what it is I am doing wrong

I have a 04 RX8 with Bose and I am trying to drive a JL 10V6w2 with a 500/1. I have tapped the rear right and left speakers after the factory amplifier.

I have connected RCA plugs to some speaker wire. Centre pin of the RCA is connected to the positive wire and the outer part of the rca plug is connected to the negative. Is this correct?? In this setup I have 4 speaker wires going to 2 RCA plugs. The other end of this cable is soldered/tapped onto the stock wires for the rear speakers (post amp).

I am playing a 50Hz test tone and have tested the voltage left and right via a multimeter and it is reading ~ 2V.

After connecting the RCA's to the amp and playing a 50Hz sample test tone I am measuring the voltage from the amp's sub output. The reading with both RCA plugs connected is very low < 1V. If I connect only left or right RCA plug exclusivey then the multimeter is reading > 20 V. I am expecting 31.6V after tweaking the gain.

I dont undertand what is happening? and would be grateful for some help. My concerns are really arround how I should be converting +/- per rear channel into RCA fpr my amp.

I know there are a few 500/1 owners on the forum so hopefully you can lend some assistance.

Thanks in advance.

Maz

if i reading this correct, you have done everything wrong. you need to run a power wire directly from the battery in the car so you can get a constant 12v to the amp. a remote wire to turn the amp off when then ignition is off and a ground wire. tapping the speaker wire isn't gonna do you any good. you need to run some rca cords from the radio to the amp and then connect the speaker wire from the amp to the sub.

it sounds like you are trying to push the speaker through that factory radio and that will not work. take it to an audio shop and get them to set it up the right way for you if you cannot figure it out. tapping wires is not the way. you can damage the speaker, amp, and possible short the entire electrical system in the car.

Thanks for the reply...sorry, I probably wasnt too clear above.

Power and remote turn on have been run...the 500/1 amp takes high level inputs via RCA. For that reason although I need a signal source I dont need a line output converter...the amp can handle upto 8V.

My question really is how do I tap the signal from the head unit into a RCA input for my amp? (without the use of a LoC)

I think that I must be doing something fundamentally wrong...

Welll I would just like to say, that I have NO idea what mmats is talking about.... you didn't mention anything about the 12+ or anything like that in your original post. and since the factory HU doesn't have RCAs - tapping is the only option.

the only advice that he gave that makes sense at all is to take it to a car audio shop if you get over your head, but i don't think were to that point yet..

as for my advice.. most people on here do not tap after the bose amp. because it does some weird things with the EQ and everything. the general consensus is to tap BEFORE the amp - and i think most people still use a line driver for RCA outs with some adjustments.

do some searching around here for thing about the bose amp and where to tap, you will find alot of info.

Thanks mate...I have an idea that I will trial this morning regarding the amp signal output cancelling with both plugs connected. Hopefully its a small overight on my part. Hopefully

In regards to tapping, I agree that EQ does pose a problem but from the reading it seems that post amp is the safest route? anyway there seems to be alot of conjecture...I will def try pre amp once I am confortable everything else is working.

I am just a bit over it at the moment

Thanks for your reply!

I can help I think, i believe your refering to JLs referece of AC output voltage from the speaker lead outputs im guessing if there is a significant drop in voltage when you have both connected that would mean that the rca ends you wired in are out of phase. got this from the sticky....
Rear left +V -P (tweeters are co-axial, same colors)
Rear right +W/L -B/L (tweeters are co-axial, same colors)

so just make sure either both negatives are on the inside pin or both positives are on the inside pin. If this isnt the case pm and Ill try to help.

If you really want to improve performance, add the Audio Control 6XS or LC6 + bass remote into this mix. Might be something to add in the future.
