Bose/system questions

Hey all. I'm new here but I've had my 04 BB with the Bose audio system for about half a year now and absolutely love it. I have a full aftermarket audio system and was looking into putting it in but i noticed the Bose amp the other day. I know from reading other threads that you are supposed to read the stickys and search, well i did and that didnt help. I'm not electronically gifted so I didn't understand any of it lol. To the question, I have a full aftermarket system already but I only want to put my 2 10s in right now. What cables do I need and how do I go about putting them in? I won't be installing them but my question is what do I need other than the cables that i bought when I had the system in my last car and is there anything I should let the person installing it know? The subs won't hurt the Bose system will they? Any info would be greatly appreciated bc i have no clue what i need to do to have them put in.

You can get away with just using a run-of-the-mill line output converter.(~$30) If you don't know what that is, the installer will. Tell them to tap onto the Bose amp OUTPUTS. Other than that, it's an install as usual.

But if you are keeping the factory headunit/radio/CD player, and are going to eventually replace the Bose speakers or add another amp, you'll want a line output converter that's a little higher end. I recommend the Audiocontrol LC6i:

If you use this, tell the installers to tap onto the Bose amp INPUTS.

Where are you located? If you're in Florida, bring the car to my shop in Melbourne.

Then I would take my car to another shop. Either A) They're idiots and have no clue what they're talking about. No car ever needs a harness to do anything outside a headunit. B) They DO know better, but they're trying to rip you for extra money. Those are really the only two options. Line output converters can be bought anywhere. Even WalMart. That gives your amp the signal. Only other things needed are power, ground and remote turn on. Power straight from the battery and ground to chassis. Remote turn on at any ignition source. This whole "Oh you have the Bose system" thing is bullshit. You're just adding subs. I suggest you find a new installer or make the drive to a board member's shop/house.

what is the remote turn on? sorry man i'm not trying to drive you nuts. i wish i knew more about this kind of stuff man so i could just do it myself but unfortunately i don't.all i know is that i have all of the cables from when i took the system out of my old car, and the installer told me the only thing i would need would be some kind of converter so i could run the amp to the factory HU and then he mentioned getting a harness so i could find the signal on the amp.

The remote turn on is simply a +12V trigger wire that tells the amp to turn on and turn off. When using a factory radio that does not have a remote turn on wire, you can simply use any ignition source. The amp turns on with the car and turns off with the car. In the RX8, the rear cig lighter is an ignition source. If you look at your amp, there is clearly a spot for it right along side the power/ground connections.

This "some kind of converter" will give you your signal. Again, there is no harness. Either you misunderstood him, or he is an idiot. If he used the word "harness" at all, I would look else where for labor. A line output converter simply takes regular speaker wires and turns them into RCA connections. Your amp takes the RCA connections for signal, uses the heavy gauge power/ground wire for power, the thin (usually blue) wire for remote trigger, and speaker wire output to the subs. It's not hard.
