Question BOSE System - LOC Connection

Dear all,

I know that this have been talked in a lot of threads and i apologize for asking again,

Could you please confirm that for the BOSE system we have to connect the LOC before the original AMP ?

If that is correct, which wires shall i connect the loc at?

If not, it will be connected in the wires after amp to speakers right?

Please advice.

This thread has great pics. However, I do not recommend using the scotchlocks. If you aren't very good at soldering, or even if you are, I would cut the wires, twist them together and use insulated crimp sleeves like these .

You don't need a LOC but if you dont use an audio summing device you will lose all center channel audio. I'm going to just tap my bose before the bose amp and use the line level imputs on my jl amp.

I'm not exactly sure what you mean by this, but it isn't true. The only time you need a summing device is if your source has several non-full range outputs that need converted to full range. On the Bose system in the 8, you would want to use this if you were tapping in after the amps and needed several full range outputs for other amps. Most would not keep the Bose amps installed if they were adding all new amps.

Mr wigggles has posted the results that show our head units are fairly flat & full range. I don't have the test equipment that he used, but I agree w/ him since my JL CleanSweep (which is a summing device) has an EQ Defeat function. After calibration, I can tell very little difference with the unit in equalize or defeat mode. I believe the difference I am hearing is just a volume difference.

As far as the center channel goes, it is not affected unless the Bose equipment is removed. When I only had subs intalled, I didn't want to run my LOC and the Bose amp off of the head unit so I took the front & rear ouputs of the head unit directly into an AudioControl 6XS. I then had the output of the 6XS fed into the front & rear inputs to the Bose amp. The center channel was never affected.

I think there is a post somewhere that has a couple of electrical schematics out of the service manual that makes it all easier to understand.
