Bose Stereo Problem
A few days into onwership of my MT with GT, my Bose steroe's passenger side speaker started to sound bad and made crackling noice every time a note was played and a word was spoken. It did not matter if I played CD or the radio. This morning on my way to the dealer to get it fixed, the problem was gone. Neither I or the dealer could reproduce the problem. Anyone here had experience intermittent problems with the Bose Stereo?

Had it been raining before this problem manifested itself, and has it now stopped?
The reason I ask is that some early '99 Miatas with factory Bose systems suffered from a condition which Bose called "half-wet," which caused a similar audible distortion after heavy rain or washing the car.
It turned out that the speaker cones were insufficiently shrouded inside the doors, and if water got past the window seal the cones could get damp and lose their rigidity until the sun same out and the cones dried up again. The situation was fixed by replacing the door speakers with an updated unit with better water protection.
Not saying that this is your problem, but it might be worth pursuing.

Hi Eccls,
Thanks for the reply. Well, actually the weather in the Bay Area had been good since I got the car until today when it started to rain. Any way, the car had not been exposed to water other than a car wash.

Where can I get some good weather protection for them?

Howdy from Scotland!
My bose hifi has been giving me sound issues from day one. The sound is very muffled, despite the treble being turned up to full. Everyone says this when they get in the car.
The HiFi unit did throw a tantrum and although I had been playing a CD, it came on with the radio on. Further there was no volume in the head unit. It didn't respond to the steering controls.
The back light for the controls would not illuminate either. (my head lights were on!).
I tried switching the unit on and off no change. I tried switching the ignition on and off, no change.
So I drove into work. Got caught in a horrific traffic jam and had no entertainment.
When i got to work I switched the ignition on and off then on again and the stereo worked again. But in addition the sound quality was there for the first time.
Got the dealer to look at it they found nothing. I suspected it was moisture in my car. I removed a quantity of water that had gathered on the back window. Enough to bead! The car had a bad habit of steaming up, until I removed this moisture.
I suspect that moisture is the culprit. I contacted Mazda Uk about the problem to ask if the car could have been exposed to high humidity? They didn't know
Funny also the engine also has a moisture issue, yip 650 miles and I've got mayo in the engine.
Begining to hate this car and atleast question my judgment buying it. Reliability is fast approaching Alfa standards. The warranty certainely seems to be on par with it.
My audio Tip is turn off the Audio/plt it seems to jerk around with the sound for no apparent reason.

The moisture issue is a new one from my understanding.
Bungobuns, what did the dealership say about the problem? This should certainly be a warranty issue. I have yet to hear about pooling water in the rear window and deck area. Let us know what is being done about that since my dealer is always happy to help with the warranty issues.

I have been experiencing intermittent buzzing with the door speakers from time to time. Not sure if it's related to the weather, but it has been below 0 here on some days.

Is it buzzing or almost a sqeaking sound? The Bose system was not designed as well as some would have you believe. When I put my amp and new speakers in I am going to Dynomat the door. No more sounds.

That would most likely (as if you didn't already guess this) be vibration in the door. If you put in dynomat or a similar product it should make it better. I get the same thing too at higher volume.

I have had repeated problems with the buzzing Bose stereo. I've taken it to mazda twice and each time they claim to have disassembled the door and put in more insulation. Of course it never seems to be as bad on the days I take it in to be serviced. I havent noticed any correlation between the noise and rain or washing the car. The buzz /vibration sounds like crap and needs to go. I'll wait until I need my next oil change before taking it in again.
