Bose speaker life...

I just got a near new 2006 RX-8 GT (4k miles) w/ the Bose speaker system. I noticed my front right speaker and it sounds like front left tweeter is starting to go. I heard alot of vibration noise on the front right speaker, especially towards the end of songs when they fade out. Is it common for these speakers to go so early or is it most likely that the prior owner abused them by playing it too loud? (Previous owner was the owner of the dealership where I got the car)

Although I'm no supporter for the Bose system, expected life is obviously MUCH greater than 4k miles worth of listening. lol

I'd take the door panels off just to make sure everything is tight and secure. Just to double check that it is indeed the speaker that you're hearing and not some other resonant vibration of loose items. You can probably pick up some replacement Bose speakers extremely cheap from someone on this board who has went all aftermarket. (Sorry, I'm hanging on to mine)

Well I just bought the car less then a week ago, so I'll bring it to the dealer to look at most likely. It may be something loose because after a while of driving (and hitting bumps) it seemed to go away

I'll have to look into it, are the panels easy to remove or should I just take it to the dealer? The front right sounds like crap when I first turn the car on for some reason but after driving a while it goes away and sounds fine, which means the speaker is fine but the distortion sounds like crap...

I had a similar problem with my 06 when I first got it. It sounded like the 9" on my door was crackling and it was brand new. I took it back to the dealer and they threw a new one in for me. I don't know what your warrenty is but I definatly don't blame you for not wanting to rip the door apart yourself. Good luck.

Did they charge you or was it covered? The car is still under the manufacture warranty and I have an extended warranty as well. The noise does go away after a while, but when I get in my car for a good 45m-1h drive, I dont want to have to listen to a "premium" sound system crackle.

I think I'll call them in a few and see what they say - hopefully they can fix it. Also the tweeter on the driver side door sounds a little distorted as well... I got the car exactly 1 week ago today and its a 2006 with only 4,000 miles.

Thanks for the feedback!

After a day or so wait for the part to come in they replaced it no questions asked. I can't remember if theres a deductable. If there is its like 50 dollars. Thats with the extended warrenty.

BY LAW, they must prove that your modifications have caused the problem. Don't let them ride on your ignorance and bully you around.
