Bose AudioPilot questions..

Ok.. so the dealer made a big deal about this new 'audio pilot' that my RX8 has (Bose system, without NAV).

However I can't seem to hear a spec of difference between it on or off. Does it only work with FM or something? (I play mostly CDs or MP3 via tape adapter). Specific volume levels upon which it activates perhaps?

I had a lousy rental last week while my RX8 was in the shop for minor issues, and I was given a crappy Chevy Malibu. However I noticed that it's stereo changed volume as my speed increased.. something I'd have expected from this audio pilot thing.

Is there a way to tell if the audio pilot is working ? Perhaps mine is broken?

Check and see if it is turned on. Dial is on Rt side of head unit...push in and turn to scroll to audiopilot option...and see if it is on. It definately will change the output if it is...not necessarily for the better :D

You'll definately know it's on...just like the Malibu. Check to see that's its on. The dealer didnt turn my on, and they made a big deal about it as well. It makes no difference what volume it is set to, it works at all levels. Mine stays around 3 or 4 the entire time with the autopilot on (CD, FM or otherwise)).

Pilot....

I don't think the AP is active on A.M., but should be obvious on F.M.

I found it is pretty sensitive to the noise of an open window, cruise along with volume set to where you like it, then crack a window a tiny bit - the AP should kick in boosting volume and bass.

Thanks all.. I tried playing with it today as I drove along the turnpike... slowing at tollbooths, open sunroof, close sunroof.. and heres what I found.

It does work... however it's 'odd'

It's not based on speed like the Malibu I rented (but I knew this).. and the sound sensor works really well when the volume is down low, say 1-5 or so. However if I crank up the volume to about 9-12 or so, It is barely noticable.. and not noticable to my ears at all above 12.

Even more odd, is it seems that it is looking not just at volume level vs noise level but the actual sound of the music in the car, for example, when I was playing Loreena McKennitt (quiet type of music, Enya like at times), it was definately noticable at almost every volume.. however when I droped in Evanescence (heavy goth type rock) , it was much harder to notice.

Either way it does seem to be working... guess I just listen to my music louder than I should :D

Since you guys are talking about AP, did you know that the mic is right under the steering wheel. It right over the drivers right knee. I happened to notice it there when I pulled my stereo out.

Is that what that is? I just noticed the vent for the first time ever this week and was curious as to what that was...interesting!

There is no unit, it's a software function of the Bose stereo.

The microphone itself is what I'm looking for, not the software.
