Bose 6Disc - no sound when cold

I've got a 2004 GT with the 6 disc Bose and in cold weather (near freezing) I don't get any sound until the car warms up. All the lights and controls on the display appear to function normally but it might be 15-20 minutes with the heater blowing before the sound comes on. It comes on instantly, no static, no on & off, just like somebody threw a switch.

I also have a separate issue with the base switching on and off apparently at random. I haven't detected any pattern. Just rolling down the road and it sounds like somebody just unplugged the amp that powers the base speakers. Several minutes later it will come back on.

Any ideas? Any way to test the rear amp to see if the problem is there or in the head unit?

Sorry for the newbie error. I didn't realize that DIY was only for performance upgrade issues when I posted.

I would first think you have a possible bad connection somewhere. Does the radio or anything else produce sound, or is this only a problem with the CD player?

No sound from the radio. I've actually never put a CD in it. Everything on the display appears to be working (volume changes, radio station changes, etc.) but no sound at all until things warm up then it instantly comes on and works fine until the next cold morning.

Next Time the bass goes out smack your door panel, see if it comes back. (might be a separate issue)

I have seen aftermarket systems that will not produce sound due to low battery voltage to amplifiers. Might want to check your battery. I would start there.

I would suggest buying a used head unit and swapping out. There is either something not making connection somewhere or a component is not working until it is warmed up. While you're in there it would be a good time to do an ipod/aux in.

I have the opposite problem... When the car gets hot all the audio cuts out... And I sometimes get a shift in bass levels, or even more strange than that, the radio decides to play with fader all by itself... so you can hear the audio sort of pan around the car.

My solution is to replace the head unit, since the 6-Disc changer is fragged anyway.

Good Luck with your unit, MLP.
