A bit off topic... Sound Insulation
Okay, this has nothing to do with RX-8s... I just figured some of you guys would have some ideas for me on this:
I'll be installing a surround sound system in my basement-media room this weekend. The speaker brakets will be bolted to the drop-ceiling frame, the sub will be on the floor.
Directly above this room is my two-year-old's bedroom... with hardwood floors. Great. So, with 500 watts at my fingertips... I'll get to use about 50 watts - like driving the RX-8 in Manhattan.
I've got access to the ceiling/floor - it's wide open. Probably 12-14" of space between the floor and drop ceiling.
So, without spending a fortune, how can I insulate the ceiling? Would standard (pink) insulation do it? Do I need to buy actual accoustic foam?
Any suggestions?
Thanks!

Standard pink insulation will work great.
Owens Corning does make interior wall insulation that is design more for sound deadening than thermal insulation.
However, you mentioned dropped down ceiling correct; does this mean your typical office ceiling tile style? The drop ceiling alone should do a great deal of sound deadening.
So I would do the drop ceiling and a thick layer of sound deadening insulation. (The sound deadening insulation might work better if it is compressed somewhat from say a layer of thing lowgrade plywood coming from underneath it.)
Owen's Corning website has some good info. For the most part I say you are safe doing whatever you want but in some cases you might be concerned about mold with some set-up (depending on your basement humidity of coarse).
