it's very similar to an e-Pass, we just call it a FastTrak. I think they basically work the same

I'm sure it does. Ours is actually called "SunPass", but I figured E-pass was the default genaric name. Really thinking about the Bel Pro 65.... I just don't think I can justify spending over $400 for about 10% better performance and less features....

Easy

Beltronics RX-65. Not only does it rank very high on tests, but it starts off with an RX in the name! Win win!

Anyway, make sure you get one with the new 6.3 firmware. Those really kick butt. I just got mine a few days ago and love it.

I just got my 8500 2 weeks ago. I got it at best buy it came out to roughly $200 it was $150 + I got the extened warranty which was about $45. It has warned me 3 times so far of speed traps. It basically already paid for itself.

Man, I've been searching and searching.. Didn't realize I posted on this thread about 4 months ago.. I need a radar detector now. Haha.

Since I don't want to spend a lot on a detector, I was leaning towards the Cobra XRS 9930-9985.. Or a used Escort 8500x on ebay. Decisions decisions..

just watch out for new ones on ebay. there are some detectors sold as new, but are actually refurbished. my friend sent an email to one guy selling tons of escorts on ebay, and he admitted they were refurbished. ebay vendors are shady.

They may also be using older firmware. Thats what buying in bulk and having them sit in a warehouse for 10-12+ months will do....

Just got popped for 98 in a 70. $216 Late night traveling. Wide open road without another car for miles and miles..... except a black and white. I KNEW I should have bought this sooner...

Although.... don't think this would have saved me being the only car out there.

I saw you post in another thread about a laser jammer. Do you have one? Do they really work? Nevada just approved a laser type speed detector and my Passport will tell me it's there but I think only when I'm hit (not sure about that) but I was at a friends house and he showed me the new unit. Friends in high places does not save the tickets.

I am saving for the Z3 laser shifters they are $300 bucks. My manger has them they work. The way they work is when they lock on the scramble the signal until you turn them off. The detector can't get a read. I have been in his car as soon as the detector goes off the shilters at the same time start scrambaling the signal. What my manager does is slow down as fast as he can to 5mph over. Turns the shifters off when they lock on again and your 5 over they don't even bother.

Yes the way we are setup now Phil is our detector lets us know when we are hit which maybe to late.

Laser technology is getting cheaper more departments are adding laser VS Ka. In my city alone the have bought 7 laser units for the patrol cars. My buddy is a cop and told me when he saw my detector. He also told me I needed the shifters.

hey id also like to know if the laser on the 8500 only detects if your already hit or not. its kinda scary how the alert is so high pitched and it just says laser.

With all radar detectors that have laser detection abilities, by the time you get a warning the cop most likely has your speed reading. The better detectors such as the V1, Escort 8500, & STi sometimes give you anywhere from 300-1000ft notice of laser. If you are traveling with denser traffic, the odds of picking up laser scatter are higher, but not noteworthy.

So, don't count on a radar detector to save you from a laser hit.

Yea the 8500 makes a distinctive sound when hit with laser. I just wanted to be sure if there was something out there that would help. Damm will it never end. Ok now all I have to do is find who sells the unit and get it on order. My friend played a joke on me tonight. It's my anniversary and while taking my wife to dinner he followed at a distance and proceeded to hit me with the new laser. Then he pulled along side and laughed. If you have a link please hit me with it.

Bringing this back to life since I have a question and most people here have detectors.

Was driving this morning, when I received a Ka band alert. I couldn't see the Police unit but there was a large curve coming up ahead and I know police like to sit on the other side.
As I come around the curve, I was surprised to see a Motorcycle Unit pointing a RAdar gun at oncoming traffic.
My question is: why Ka, not laser???

if you got it before the large curve, it means he was leaving the radar on.

laser is only instant-on i believe, meaning they have to pull the trigger. i doubt they would want to pull the trigger each and every time someone passes by.

the V1 won't help you. Stop driving 70 in a 45 and that'll fix the problem.

Remember: the radar detector is not designed to stop you from getting tickets; simply to give you an EXTRA set of eyes

I don't know how you Cali guys can use a detector in town. There are so many false hits from micro wave units and the dam business door openers (even in the city mode). Your town is 100 miles wide and long so it take forever to get out of town and all that dam traffic.
At least here in 15 minutes we are out of town were the detector works the way it was designed.
