hi all

So I finally got down to it today and started putting together my audio system. To Start I have an Alpine V12 125WX4 going in along with 6X9 Boston Acoustic SL95s, and Boston Acoustic Pro60's 6.5. Controlled via an AudioControl 6XS.

Today I took my stock rear deck speakers out (pretty easy but a pain to take all seats out) and wired that up for power off the Cig lighter in the center console. Also wired up my amp for power. Drilled thru the firewall on the passenger side and ran 4 gauge wire down. Tommorow is the fun part of getting the signals and finally wiring up the speakers. I was worried about finding a good ground in the trunk that was easy and hidden. My answer was found after I peeled off the trunk plastic guard thinggy (where the glow in the dark trunk release is)

One thing to note: i'm doing all of this in a hilton hotel parking lot (because that where I live due to work paying for it 24/7) So i dont have access to tons of tools or neat things to make the job easier. Attached are is a pic. It fit PERFECT - just take the bolt off, slip on the ground wire and tighten back up. Once you put everything back together and run the wire down the right side and sneak it out under the plastic you cant even see it I was so proud of myself. The ground is really good too - my amp shows its getting 12.2V with no fluctuation.



One question - you know where my amp is sitting in the recessed trunk area - i know there is no gas tank under there just the heat shield for the exhaust, once I get everything wired up in the final place would it be okay to put 4 screws (how long is the question) thru there and not really worry whats on the other side? I would say that is a good place for a amp like that..

But I would not use it for an amp that has some serious power demands like an amp for a subwoofer.. because although you are getting 12 volts there is probably still a great deal of resistance in that ground. Refer to the ground sticky at the top of this forum for more info.

As for putting screws through the trunk... Definatly not a good idea.. It's way to risky.. The best Idea I think is to put a 1/2 peice of wood under the carpet (that fits in the well snug enough that it won't move or use some kind of material to glue it to the floor) and screw into that through the carpet.

this amp is just going to power my midbass (just replacing all the stock bose crap) any subwoofer stuff would come later and have a seperate amp/ground.

I like the idea about getting a piece of wood and cutting it down to fit under the carpet and just getting some short screws.

 

if you get a new amp for a sub later -

the power wire you have now is sufficient unless your going to be putting some RIDICULOUS in

and the ground for both amps should be the same ground to prevent noise

so basically what I'm saying is when you get a new amp and run a new ground to get a dist block for both the power and ground and run it to both amps, and also use the same gauge wire you did for the power for the ground.

I think the best way to do it is to put a piece of plywood in the well, cover it with some charcoal subbox capet. I got some from tweeter that looks pretty damn close to the factory carpet. This way you can drill holes in the plywood neer your hookups to keep it all looking clean. In my setup all the wires come around under the plastic at the rear of the trunk and straight under the board, so you never see them until the come up thru the wood.
