i have a stock 04 rx8 (yellow) that i just bought. i'm starting to do work on it in this order

-Audio
-Intake
-Exhaust
-Short Shifter
-Maybe Turbo

I'll make threads pertaining to the different upgrades eventually. But first i'd like to attack the Audio.

Questions-

Will i need any additional parts(i.e, head unit upgrade) if i want to put in a sub? i'm going with the MTX terminatiors. it comes with an amp, i'm retarded when it comes to sound so if anyone here has done this. i'd like to know the steps to achieve what i require.

well first welcome to the club...2nd if you use the search button on the options upper bar you might find the answer to almost all your questions...

ok so no u dnt have to replace the head unit to connect an amp.. just the right wiring

I went ahead and fixed your original post for you.
as for the audio upgrade; you don't have to upgrade the head unit but some people have opted to do so with the release of the Metra Kit. (do a quick search, lots of good info on it)
I upgraded my stereo but I had the BOSE so it was a little different since I used a Line Output conveter and tapped the rear 6x9's. The base model doesn't have that ability but I don't imagine it's all that difficult.
I think there's a few good threads in this subforum that should help guide you along the way

thank you, and i love the my 8. i've been driving it for a few months now, i feel kinda of sorry for the clutch as i didn't know how to drive stick before i got the car lol.

Alright Though, as i am literally still retarded. i'm looking for answer more like this.

Does anything need to be purchased other than AMP/2x 12" Subs
How much is the Average cost to install this(Remember i am retarded when it comes to sound)
Will the installer know how to set the stock subs down to i guess "just music" while the bass goes directly to the subs?

Like i said, i'm new. i have used the search button, but get way to frustrated looking through these posts because i link myself to 40 different tabs and get overloaded with things to read.

You'll need a box (I have one made by SRQ customs, they can make a box for 1 or 2 10" or 12" subs). You'll also need power, most likely a 4 gauge or an 8 gauge kit. Also, depending on your amp and whether you have the Bose stereo system in your vehicle, you may need a line-output converter and possibly some other wiring equipment.

I would expect a basic install, assuming you have all of these components ready to go for the installer, to run $150-$300 in labor (2 to 4 hours of work). If you want to make the installer's job easier, search for and print out a few pictures of the firewall passthrough for the power cable run (I forget whose thread that is).

The installer should be able to work with you to set the amp to settings that work well for you.

very helpful. i have the GT 04, so i have the bose 6 or 8 speaker i forget.
and the subs i want come in a box already, it's not like the nicer custom ones that fit perfectly but i'm gonna mount it somehow.

Be careful when buying that box, doing dual 12" is a very tight fit in an RX8. Make sure you measure for both relevant purposes - the final fit, and getting it into the trunk. I understand your desire for super heavy bass like you'll get with the dual 12" terms, but in all likelihood, you'll get better sound quality, and plenty of volume out of dual, or even a single 10" with the right woofer and amp.

All things considered, the install itself is not terribly difficult. Personally, I think you would be better advised to consider spending the money you would be spending on installation labor on better equipment. I'm running a single 10" JL Audio 10W3v3 in a ported box and turning the volume up even halfway is more than I can take.

One more thing you may wish to consider is that the 9" Bose speakers in the front door will no longer need to handle the bass below 80-100Hz (depending on where you set the crossover). You may want to buy bass blockers (basically a very simple high-pass filter) at 80-100Hz or so to cross the bass over to the sub and help it blend with the existing system better.

Thanks for that. If you were in Mass, I'd suggest you come hear my sub setup. I'm sure there are other people on the forum in your area with subs that could give you an opportunity to hear how their setups sound - you can at least get an idea for what volume level you can get out of whatever system they have. Post on your regional forum and see if anyone responds...

imho shop around you could get one 10 or 12 in your car that will even harder than those 2 12s my friend has that set of terminators they dont even bump that loud cause the amp they come with isnt the proper size, just do some research and you will probably get a better deal on a better sub single 10 or 12 wichever you prefer with a good amp installed at a local shop, just stay away from best buy :D good luck

btw i have a single 12 inch audiobahn with a hifonics 2 channel zeus amp and it sounds clean, not over powering that one sub runs around 700rms, where those mtx's are a max of 300 rms each, as it is my trunk space is now unexistant
