Audio Questions

Ok guys bear with me on this one, I am looking into investing on getting an ipod for not only for the gym but hopin to also be able to use it in my car. I know this has been rehashed like a dead horse and have done some research on possibilities I can use to hook it up. I have heard and read about the Neo and some other mod someone on here made for an aux outlet??? I guess I want to know what the best FM modulator I can get for a temporary fix. I have searched and read a few reviews on them like the Ipod itrip and the MONSTER CABLE iCARPLAY WIRELESS PLUS iPOD/MINI CAR. Does anyone have a suggestion of the best one that gets the best reception??? I would also like a better explanation on the other things or other alternative for me to hook my ipod up without a fm transmitter??? I know alot about electronics but not about car audio stuff. If anyone can explain to me in dummy terms the best stuff to get, where to locate it, and what it's gonna cost for it???? Any info would help and on the transmitter thing. Thanks in advance!!!!

If I wer'e you I wouldn't even waste my money on a fm transmitter. I tried 3 and had horrible reception and sound clarity. In the long run it would be better to go ahead and get a PIE adaptor along with the plug that converts it to rca out. Here are the links. http://www.discountcarstereo.com/detail.aspx?ID=445 for the adaptor. http://www.discountcarstereo.com/detail.aspx?ID=124 for the rca. http://www.discountcarstereo.com/detail.aspx?ID=767 for the ipod headphone jack. I would go ahead with the rca jacks.

I bought two FM transmitters and returned them both and bought the PIE unit. The transmitters are way too weak and its hard to find a channel that's not being used in in my city.

The PIE unit is very simple to install. Don't wast you money having someone else do it, they might mess up your car.

install it yourself

u need this: http://www.mazdaparts.com/ProductDet...000-1112606399

and this: http://www.mazdaparts.com/ProductDet...001-1115920829

You just plug and play...plug the Maz/Alp pie unit into the port on the back of the head unit...to access the head unit see instructions here:

http://www.whatsmyip.org/ipodrx8/ (for removal instructions don't try the diy of the aux in it is horribly flawed with feedback and the need for a dummy cd plus forget about the warranty)

Does anyone here know if my local Mazda dealer can do it for me??? I am just so worried about voiding my warranty for that kind of stuff because when it comes to me and installing any car audio stuff, something always wrong happens.....is there a step by step directions on how to do this with pictures as well????

the link I just posted before your post was step by step

as for mazda doing it I know a girl who had mazda do it for cheap...on her protege

but that is because her security clip was broken

seriously DIY this one...this isn't brain surgery...it is plugging the unit into the back of the Head Unit

the hardest part is the 'hidden' bolt...and I have a tip for you on that...loosen first...then remove with your fingers not the socket extender...this way you have control of the bolt ones it is loose

btw DON"T forget to unhooked the negative battery terminal before doing anything

Ok so on the DIY instructions what pages do I need to follow through on it because it goes all the way into 20 pages long and it looks complicated at that, having to take all the screws out and all apart just to solder the wires to a board. Looks like I would take it up to page 7 then what???? What do I hook the rest of the stuff up to??

haha read my post :D

I said to just remove the HU with the instructions...don't dissasemble the HU...no soldering no removing the red screws

just unclip the connectors and pull the HU out :D plug in the PIE then put it back in (connecting the rest of the connectors of course)

it is really easy once you are good it takes 15 minutes

headphone jack 3.5mm

the IPOD controller version from Denison is highly problematic...the PIE is a reliable crystal clear aux input

you can also get a mbus to RCA cable if you want (which is what I use for my video setup) but for mp3 players the 3.5mm cable is best

nice...that is the way to go...

also the best placement for the controls is in the center console near the shift boot on the left...the reason: your right hand is free far more often then your left hand which is steering

that is where I am installing the xbox controls...it just makes so much more sense that way :D

which port does the PIE go into??? after plugging that in what do I do with the other part? PIE MBUS to stereo cord? So the white part goes to the PIE and the blue part goes into the unit? Once you put that in and put everything back in will it require anything else? If I install this will this be voiding my warranty that i currently have with it? Could I possibly blow anything even though this is relatively easy to install myself??? Like I said before I am car electronically challenged when it comes to installing this stuff myself. I can do anything else electronically like computers, home theaters, ects...

ok the ports only go in to the correct ones

you plug the white into the back of the HU (only port open and only port that fits)

blue of that cable goes into the PIE box

then the mbus cable you plug into the pie box in the circular port

this is a lot easier seen then explained as all of the ports are different and can only be plugged in one way

this will not be voiding your warranty as it is plug and play...in fact the MAZDA sirius satellite connector works the same way and goes in the same port

you cannot blow anything if you disconnect the battery before hand...it is EASY AS PIE :D :D

just make sure all the connectors are in tight before reassembling everything

don't worry this will start you on a path of DIY mods :D I was never into car audio etc but if you know computers/home theaters you'll be even better off...it will make so much sense

Don't forget the AuxMod. I have one in my car and it works great. It has a 1/8" jack on it, so to hook up your iPod, all you need is a cable with two 1/8" male ends.

www.sylfex.com

You need to email to get on the waiting list.

Also, they're working on having iPod and/or PC song info displayed on the car's display. Sweet!

u don't need that there are no GLI problems with the PIE unless u have a poor rf bleeding power cord for the mp3 in car power

at 4.50 it can't hurt to get it you won't find it cheaper
