audio freeze up

Why does my audio system not play on cold days till the interior warms up? May take up to a half hour before sounds come back from a freezing morning.

Thermal expansion. Check for loose connectors, fuses, etc.

Also, can you be more descriptive? Does the radio turn on? does it act like it plays but has no sound? Is the sound distorted when it starts to play then slowly gets better.

Your homework is to write 3 paragraphs on how your stereo behaves when you start it on a cold morning.

audio freeze up

Radio is on but has no sound on any function FM/ AM or CD. When the sound does come on it is instant with no distoration. Was 35 this morning and took five minutes to come on yesterday was 29 and took fifteen. Thursday and Friday are going to be in the teens here so I'll let you know. Bought the car in 2006 and this just started this winter. The car is a 04 auto with one replacement engine at 14,000 miles now has 43,000. The sound system is all orignal. Thanks for the help.

Next time it happens, go to the back of the car, reach up, and wiggle the cables running into the amplifier underneath the rear deck. You should see a shiny metal box that says Bose on it. That's your amp. I suspect for some reason, in cold weather it's not getting the signal from the head unit to turn on, but as the car warms up something expands and makes contact and the unit turns on.
