do they actually work?

I heard from a few car guys that have them and love them, but I have a coworker who swears there is no way the jammer could know which frequency to jam and work fast enough.

I showed my coworker this page:

http://www.guysoflidar.com/july-2008...mmer-test.html

Also mentioned how the guns can detect being jammed. If jammers didn't work, they wouldn't have jamming detectors.

He responded:

"Either laser interceptor sponsored the test, or they purposefully create a laser beam that is diffused rather than focused"

Sounds like he doesn't believe the test.

i think all the people dropping a g note and more on these things would beg to differ with your buddy

the GOL guys are on the level, though not everyone is impressed with their testing methodology.

at any rate, LI is pretty much the undisputed best, others work to varying degrees, but bottom line is they work, for a fact. most owners will install a kill switch so they can get down to legal speeds and shut off the jammer so the LEO can get a lock on them. check out radardetector.net forums for lots of unbiased everyday user feedback

Where i work, somewheres in SoCal, all of our lidar guns (supposedly) WILL detect jamming. I don't have quite the strongest notion on how this particular product is superior or what-- but the point stands that we can detect jamming lol.

I'm not here to get in a pissing match on whether or not it will work, in fact i quite agree that it most likely does its job well. In any case, i think here in CA its only an infraction (like running a stop sign) to have a jamming device, unless you have more than 3 devices on your vehicle, or even being in possession of, at which point it becomes a misdemeanor. Hell i'd almost (If i was a non law-abiding citizen ;D) pay the fine for the infraction to speed like hell on the highway.

From the California Vehicle Code division 12 article 17:

Jamming: Electronic Speed-Measuring Devices

28150. (a) No vehicle shall be equipped with any device that is designed for, or is capable of, jamming, scrambling, neutralizing, disabling, or otherwise interfering with radar, laser, or any other electronic device used by a law enforcement agency to measure the speed of moving objects.
(b) No person shall use, buy, possess, manufacture, sell, or otherwise distribute any device that is designed for jamming, scrambling, neutralizing, disabling, or otherwise interfering with radar, laser, or any other electronic device used by a law enforcement agency to measure the speed of moving objects.
(c) Except as provided in subdivision (d), a violation of subdivision (a) or (b) is an infraction.
(d) When a person possesses four or more devices in violation of subdivision (b), the person is guilty of a misdemeanor.
(e) Notwithstanding any other provision of law, a person who has a valid federal license for operating the devices described in this section may transport one or more of those devices if the license is carried in the vehicle transporting the device at all times when the device is being transported.

Added Sec. 1, Ch. 493, Stats. 1998. Effective January 1, 1999.
In any case now that I'm probably boring you guys... I'll patronize you: Be safe :D

Oh and if any questions about the long arm of the law feel free to ask. ;D
